Hey yall...since there's so much talk about the PP nowadays, I figured I'd put up a thread devoted specifically to it. Pics are welcome. Anyways, I'm headin down to Gander Mountain before work tomorrow, and have a shotgun I want to trade in for a Pardner Pump. Hopefully, being the kind of shotgun it is, I'll be able to do a straight trade plus get a little cash in hand. They have new PP's for $225, and I saw a a couple really nice used ones. What should a lightly used PP go for do yall figure? Anyways, this is the Pardner Pump hangout thread....goead with it!

Still looking for one. Very few around here (so cal). The only one around I've seen was $299 and I wasn't willing to shell out that much cash. Been looking for a while so I guess I can wait for the next boat to come.

-I know they have them online but my local FFL's are pricey and I like to handle agun before I buy them no matter what brand. Live and learn I guess.

Bootless, are you focused on the gun or price range? I ran into the same problem and ended up getting a maverick at wallyworld for $180, and I've already been very impressed with the mossberg customer service.

Big 5 in town is selling the Pardner for $300, which is almost 2x as much as Bi-mart would sell them for if they could get them.

Local dealer had a bunch when they first came out---they didn't sell well---they still have a couple at $179 on the shelf.

$300 gets you a new Express at Cabela's---with 3 choke tubes and a Tru-glo sight and that's not even on sale----they go on sale regularly at $280.

I went to a local store this morning and they wanted $329.99 for a Pardner Pump or a IAC 982. Crazy guys.

Smithmax, Unfortunately I live in one of those places where wallyworld doesn't sell guns. Bummer I know. I've been pretty set on the pardner due to the positive reviews. I'm a big fan of Remington but all of mine are bird guns and I want an inexpensive camp/HD gun. I haven't had too good of an experience with the 870 Exrpess so I decided to get the next best thing, a copy of one. Oh and I have some 870 parts around so that's another reason.

Buds is having a weekend sale again this weekend. Last time PPs dropped to $167 SHIPPED. Bought one then. Its a great little gun. Features wise they are above a 870 Express. I can often find used Wingmasters for $175-200 locally, but I if I wanted to replace barrell with 18.5" one and ad a takeoff synthetic stock the price starts to get up there. The best other options are usually finding Mossberg 500s used, or new. Doing a Barrel change (or cutting) on the Walmart $177 Maverick version.

I really liked my Norinco made 1897 Riot model....it was a little rough at first, but after a 100 rnds or so, it smoothed up really nice. I noticed that the PP is a lot better finished than the 97 model I had. My thing is that the PP is basically an 870 Police model at half the price....and it can accept nearly all 870 accessories.

How is the action compared to the Remington 870? Is it as smooth as the remington to pump?

The ones I've handled are almost as smooth as my Rem. 870, which is about 25 years old.....but a new Remmy compared to the PP, they're about the same.

I got my Pardner Pump Protector 12 ga. for $169+tax. I think it was about 1 1/2 years ago. I know they've gone up some since then, but I can't imagine paying $300 for one though. I haven't had any problems with mine other than not having time to practice with it.

wALMART super center will order a PP for $200.00

In my home town, from their catalog of guns, from Sports South

An update on the barrel exchange! Since Marlin took over, you can now get barrels shipped directly to you. I called them last week and within 7-10 days I can have a new 28" barrel for 103.00

That's really good to know. I was just thinking about getting a longer barrel for my Protector, I had so much fun shooting clays the other day with an 18.5" barrel, I want to do it more with a proper setup. The 28" is the one I was looking at. So no more sending the gun in? No more "expert-fitting" (an absolute joke)?
You know what shipping was?

Dick's sells the PP for $220. That's where I got mine & I recently traded it for ammo. Nothing wrong w/it. I just don't need it w/an 870 & S12

It should be noted that Dick's does not have universal pricing.
The Dick's closest to my house had them for $220 while the Dick's closest to my work (two towns away), on the same day, had them "on sale" for $249.

My father just gave me a Pardner Pump with the 28" barrel, which he has had for a couple of years, but has never fired. I'm more interested in the 18.5" barrel. Would I be better served to just sell this and purchase the "Pardner Pump Protector", or are the shorter barrels fairly easy to acquire and swap out?

When I called H&R last week, the rep said they were out of stock on spare barrels for the Pardners and it would be a few weeks before any arrived...

Yeah, that kinda sucks... what I really want to do is swap this for one of the 18.5" barrel versions. Don't suppose anyone on here has one, and wants one of the longer barreled versions...? I don't have the original box, but I do have the warranty card, etc.

I'm the guy who traded the ammo. I can also vouch there is nothing wrong with it. I put about 100 rds through it with no issues. Not as smooth as an 870 but not anything you can't deal with.

I got it because I wanted a reliable inexpensive pump for those activities I don't want to subject my 870 to.
