Good day Gentlemen, I'm not exactly new I'm 70 but still active, I shoot a 75cal. brown bess. and a 54cal. Hawken most of the time. I also have a match grade 30-06 but its a little hard on me to hunt anymore. I live in Utah at the foot of the Wasatch Range. I found this site doing some research on the Schermuly rocket pistol. I'm also into making replica Star Wars Weapons. Having some of the weird and wonderful pictures posted here gives one some really interesting ideas.

20 year old California (I know, I know...California. If the job market permits, I'm trying to move to NH when I graduate). Born and raised in the Bay Area, currently live in Davis for school. I'm a third year Biochem major at UC Davis. I'm interested in all firearms - I tend towards handguns, I just think they're more fun to shoot, but I hunt (big game and waterfowl), and so I know a bit about and own centerfire rifles and shotguns.

Hello!

This is my first time to join any forum or post a thread. I will relate some of my shooting experiences as a way of explaining my interests -- I will discontinue the story when I tire -- please feel free to do the same!

I retired with health issues in early 2005. I have an interest in almost anything having to do with firearms. I had little real experience with shooting until I took up ATA trapshooting in 1994. My first real trap gun was a BT99 I found on consignment at one of my gunshop hangouts. Before that I used an Ithica Model 37 Featherlite, and then a new Browning 325 Sporting Clays gun (thought I might like to do that too). The Sporting Clays gun continued to be my trap doubles gun and my multi-purpose/back-up. My real forte seemed to be trap handicap, but I competed in all three events with some success. At one point I just had to have a Beretta Trap my friend had. It had been fitted with a single barrel to go with the OU and had had release triggers installed. My friend had problems getting the triggers to work and after several trips to the gunsmith finally reinstalled the original triggers and bought a Perazzi. I sold the BT99 and a Desert Eagle to get my hands on that Beretta!! Then the trouble started -- the Beretta had a tendency to shuck small parts at inappropriate times. Apparently, all those trips to the gunsmith (and probably my friends tinkering) had loosened up nearly every screw holding something! I finally traded the Beretta for an M1A1 after selling its extra stock and single barrel to another friend.

Now having no trap gun I traded two handguns for a Remington 3200. Another friend and I made a trip to a gunshop and went through all of his several 3200s looking for the "gem". After each of us opening and closing breeches looking for the dot and other signs of the "mods" I found my baby -- and proudly took it home to show Momma! It was perfect-- not too old, pretty and stacked nicely. Everything was satisfactual -- until -- my friend wanted to check out My Baby one more time, clearly envious of my acquisition, he opened and closed the breech several more times and then announced, "the forend is cracked!" What!! It couldn't be! "You'll put your eye out kid!" But there it was - a brand new crack that definitely wasn't there before! So, what could I do but send the forend off to Laib's for repairs and strengthening. With the extractors now removed I continued my pursuit of shotgunning happiness.

Skeet shooting was king at a gun club I joined and of course I was encouraged to abandon my wicked trapshooting ways and take up skeet. I compromised and joined some members for a round of "scrap" -- probably known by many names but basically trap targets from skeet stations. This was of course just an insidious effort to get me hooked on skeet. Their efforts were not completely successful -- I started shooting skeet AND trap, but my true love was still trap. However, an older 3200 skeet gun with .410, 24, and 20 gauge tubes became available, so My Baby had a new sister!

Sister had some wear so she took a trip to Florida for re-bluing, and hard-chroming of her receiver. There was a household revolt surrounding having two guns that seemed to do the same thing, and since I had hatched and implemented a plan to have Remington fit Sister with a new trap barrel, My Baby joined a traveling circus and left the household. Unfortunately, Sister's new friend was crooked and she went to Remington rehab to get straightened out. The whole process was delayed requiring reconciliation with My Baby and resulted in her happy return home!

I was having back problems and found that on weekend trap tournaments I could get some relief with another friend's Beretta semi-auto. I then bought his Beretta 391 Classic Trap. This went well until I needed to shoot trap doubles at a state prelim and had a squad member object to the ejected hulls "flying around" (against the rules, but who knew???) By this time I was satisfied with the setup and performance of Sister and her significant other and once again said goodbye to My Baby as she joined a brand new trapshooter's family. Don't know about you, but I'm tired!!!! -------

Guess I can't be too fussy, and I like cats ! LOL

Welcome again to all the new folks - nice to see the forum still growing, and it is always nice to learn from all those who visit here. Don't hesitate to share !

I have been shooting for 50+ years now, and doing firearm repair work for about 25 of that (now mostly retired). I used to own a small gun shop but now mostly just hang out at a friends gun shop. A lot going on in the firearm industry over the last 5 decades.

A lot of changes in products, laws, costs, and social attitudes. An interesting time with ups and downs, and a strong need for all to keep busy fighting for the right to firearm ownership & self protection. Freedom is not free, and numbers do count - welcome to all !!

Morning to all. So anyways, Im new to the forums. A little background about myself. Im 20, been shooting since age 7. Over my lifetime I've shot 15+ different handguns ranging from .22LR to 357Magnum. I've also shot around 10 different shotguns. Sadly I've only shot 3 rifles. although I've held 100s of different guns. I own a 12 guage mossberg 500 pump and a 20 guage Charles Daly semi. I also own two pistols. Both are .22s. A Ruger Mk2 and an old fashioned Colt Peacemaker. Unfortunately I dont get to shoot nearly as much as I'd like because money is pretty tight these days. But I do shoot as much as possible. As of right now Im saving up for a Springfield XDM 9mm and a Springfield GI 1911 .45ACP. After those two I'll be buying a Ruger Vaquero .45LC and then I'll purchase a Smith & Wesson revolver in 357 Magnum although I haven't decided on a model yet. I'll also be buying a compact gun although I haven't decided on that either. When all is said and done I'll start my purchase of rifles.=D Ramble over n out.

The first thread I made was closed before I even got a chance to get it going with real information that people may have gotten a good benefit from. Looks like this will be a very short lived run for me on THR.

New Guy

Oh where to start , currently in my 13th year as a police officer in NC enjoy hunting , fishing , target shooting , collecting , and any excuse to burn powder. I found this site after I got into reloading enjoy reading the posts even though I don't agree with some points of view. Some goos info. and interesting people.

FNG

I am a 20-year-old university student living in California.

I am familiar with firearms but unarmed at the moment. My plan of future acquisitions mainly revolve around modern firearms, especially civilian versions derived from military designs.

I am currently seeking a reasonably priced SIG 556 rifle. In less than a year, I plan on acquiring a SIG P220 pistol.

I am 64 years old, a retired information technology professional well-educated in the physical sciences and mathematics. With .22 rifles and 12-ga. shotguns, I started hunting birds, snakes, and snapping turtles, squirrels, coons, et al, before I was 10 at my home farm in South Arkansas. At 11, I killed my first white-tail deer with my new Remington Model 740 .30-06, a gift from my father. I still have the rifle, though refreshed now several times and it still looks and shoots like new. Now retired as a gentleman farmer in western Arkansas (Ouachita Mountains near Hot Springs), I have returned to motorcycle riding -- a Suzuki V-Strom 1000 -- as well as maintenance of my property and tree farm. I provide primary care for my mother (93) and my alcoholic son (45). In the past year, several incidents while riding and adventuring alone led me to seek my first Concealed Carry Permit and to buy my first personal defense weapon -- a low-cost, but feels-good Bersa Firestorm .45 ACP Semi-auto which I now carry most of the time. I also have a Taurus .38 Special with a six-inch barrel -- which I call my "snake gun" when I carry it on my Kubota tractor while working in my fields. Other guns include a Saiga .410 semi-auto shotgun and a caliber-matching new Taurus "The Judge" .410 3" Magnum (and .45 Long Colt, which I don't plan to exercise), a Ruger .44 Remington Magnum lever-action carbine, three shotguns in .12-ga. field grade, and five .22 semi-automatic rifles accumulated over the years. Today I used the T/C Classic 22 to dispatch a cottonmouth "moccasin", about 3.5 feet long, at a distance of 30 yards as it was swimming up my creek.

I don't shoot a great deal for sport, as I have developed hearing losses dating as far back as my military service in the U.S. Navy in both enlisted and officer roles. However, I practice enough with my weapons to maintain a responsible control of them in the situations where I would expect them to be used. However, I wouldn't mind having a varmint rifle -- perhaps something in .17 caliber or Ruger .204 with a great scope, maybe Leupold. A large-caliber revolver, like a Ruger Red Hawk Alaskan in .44 Mag to match my carbine would be a nice balance. In summary, I have no "exotic" weapons and no desire for any -- especially those of a strictly militarized form or derivation -- but have developed a real lust for a Dan Wesson (CZ) Commander Classic Bobtail (aka CBOB) in .45 Auto and I believe I will find one of those fairly soon. It might be my last gun acquisition. In principle, while I like the ballistics capabilities of rimmed revolver cartridges like .357/38, .41 Mag/Special, .44 Mag/Special, and .454 Casull/.45 LC, the inefficiency of the revolver as a delivery method has made me decide on a single pistol cartridge -- .45 ACP -- as my 'reach out and touch' choice.

I am not a one-trick pony. I also belong to a few motorcyclist forums, a agriculture/utility tractor forum, and actually write articles on computers and on paper! As a youth, I was a cowboy - literally -- with rodeo competition. Later, I raced off-road motorcycles in amateur competition. I've traveled all of the states and a good fraction of the world -- mostly at the expense of my employers, often government agencies.

Forums exist for intelligent conversation, where I'm concerned. I hope you'll consider me as a useful member of this one.

40 Yr old in Ky. Learned to target shoot as a child, honed my skills as a USMC rifleman. I've been away from guns for awhile, but it's time to teach my boys all that they will not learn in the scouts. We've done air rifle for two years, now it's time for a little more power. I've got an Anschutz 22LR to start them off with, and also a S&W Model 15 for camping. For the future, a semi-auto 38 or magnum, and an AR-15 for myself, and whatever works out for the boys.

Semper Fi, Mac!!

I did the same thing with my two boys, now 13 and 10, moving them from a Crosman single pump and Red Ryder BB guns up into the Ruger 10/22 and then into the AR-15. My oldest is now shooting my XDm 9mm and my XD 45. I've even gotten my wife into shooting and she loves it, too.

At this rate, I'm not gonna have enough ammo for me.

It's great to have a community to share with. I'm 37 years old and live in firearm friendly Kentucky. I've always liked firearms, but in the past several years it's become an obsession. Not that I have an arsenal, but the desire for knowledge and liberty have become a large part of life. I know most of you know what I'm saying about when your in the non-gun world of work, church, or where ever, we are the people everybody comes to with questions about guns. I started shooting IDPA about three years ago (and I used to think shooting a couple hundred rounds a year was a bunch, LOL.) My favorite tool (gun) I've had was my Ruger 77 in 257 Roberts; keepin' my eyes out for a No.1. My favortie non-tradeable in my great-grandfather's 1897 Win. (1905 manufacture). It will be great sharing info and ideas with you all.

Hello All,
Only recently have I become interested in combatives and the broader spectrum of self defense. I have found many threads from this forum in searching for information on various subjects related to said self defense. I am looking forward to becoming involved here and even the ocassional BS session.
Looks like a great community and an awesome group of folks.

Thanks for the opportunity,
Billy

Howdy everyone!
I found these forums while trying to find more info about my grandfathers first gun that I inherited, a Marlin Mod. 39. Everyone has been very helpful and now I'm even part of the Marlin 39 Club. I was raised around firearms and have always had a self defense weapon nearby, but have lately felt the need to be more aware of what's going on around me in relation to my civil liberties and making sure I keep my family and loved ones safe.
Thanks for the warm welcome and the kind responses here. This is really a great place to spend a bit of time.
Chris
