I gotcha. That sux. It makes a newbie to the site wonder. Anyway, I think it's a great site and I plan on being a permanent fixture around here. I also will not mention the trouble anymore.

THR is my favorite gun site!

I'm going to give a political answer. THR is my favorite gun related site.

Truth be told, I spend more time at Frugal Squirrels (www.frugalsquirrels.com). For me it's a more general interest site on preparedness. I think guns are a useful tool but they are not my life. I hope I don't get banned for saying that. :)

Heh-Heh

"I hope I don't get banned for saying that."

You are now on double secret probation.

THR is is my favotite right after Voyeurweb.Com!:D

I hear that Australia,

Australia of all freakin' places

Is going on a major gun/weapons control binge

Similar to Blighty.

Any inside track would be appreciated.

Isher,
as far as i know there have been no new attempts at taking our guns away, though our ownership of guns is still heavily restricted/ regulated.

this is a site for my state regarding firearms licences and permits:
http://www.police.vic.gov.au/content.asp?Document_ID=111

hope that helps.

This forum used to be my favorite until I saw several of the members re-occurring sniping at other posters and belittling posters.

Some are just looking for things to make fun of, not to try to help.

I do believe that THR has an excellent overall membership, but a few bully's can ruin a stew.

I like friendly boards where people like to help posters, not jump on them for any reason they can find.

I now visit once in a while, but mainly go to

http://www.handgunforum.net/

They are very friendly over there.

I've tapered off quite a bit since the legal battle. Just feel like a different site. Same with .us, I've been there a time or two, just has a different vibe.

What legal battle?

I'm in a mood where I dont care too much for the web, as far as socializing. I'll skim through here and various other sites while I wind down after work.

I have the same feelings lately. In fact, I don't get on the web very much anymore.

Seeing is how this was looked over by at least one mod maybe they will take some hints from looking in this thread on what can be done to improve the moderating.
I have noticed that at .us, the mods aren't as lock happy also.

I have been in THR a little over a year, and it has changed in that time quite a bit. Many of the "oldtimers" that could be counted on are long gone, or at least I have not seen much from them. (SM comes to mind)

I get the split over the lawsuit. It reminds me of one of my favorite jokes:

A guy is stranded alone for years on a deserted island. When finally rescued via helicopter, the pilot asks what the three huts were for. "Are there any others?" "Nope." "The one on the left is where I live, the one on the far right is where I go the church." "what about the one in the middle? "That's where I used to go to church."

People get sideways. Oleg wants to run ads & may have some historical claim; those he left to care for our beloved .org, that grew it from the nothing he walked from & now seeks to reclaim, do not want ads & are trying to keep it the way it was when he started it. I have taken sides, and this is where I want to be. Let .US run all the banners they can stuff into it. I won't be seeing them---

Given the history, I get that the mods are careful & quick to protect. In the end, it makes this place what it is. Maybe Derek should sue Oleg for some of the ad revenue he no doubt sold on the notoriety .org has been able to establish in his absence.

How is a simple "No" not an option in this poll?

I posted on THR a lot before I enlisted, and I'm finally getting back into it. But I still spend most of my time on the Round Table spin-off www.ArmedPoliteSociety.com than any gun specific forum, and more time on TFL than either of the Siamese THR's.

Elroy: nice character assassination of someone who can't defend himself (or be defended for that matter). Classy.

+1 I rarley read or post on threads anymore, to many people waiting to pounce

I like THR, but it's not my favorite. I spend a lot more time on JPP (justplainpolitics.com)

I've know a lot of the people there longer than my wife.

Funny. I thought Oleg was the plaintiff. Take a peak @ .US, and you will quickly discover the site is as focused on Mr. Volk's quest as it is on RKBA.

I have yet to read a single post from Derek on this topic. May have been some, but I have not seen it. If he (Oleg) knew what this was going to become, he would not have walked away from it. Now that someone else has done the heavy lifting, he wants to cash in. Sometimes situations really are easy to figure out.

Yup. Those Mods sure have a lot to learn! Why can't here be just like every place else on the errornet? If only they'd lighten up a bit, it could be like just like all the places we choose NOT to hang out! Wouldn't that be -swell-?

I have noticed that at .us, the mods aren't as lock happy also.
Isn't this a cool situation? You have another site, similar in some ways, that you can go to if you like it better there. Seriously! What are you waiting for? Go! Be FREE!

All this narcissistic whining is embarrassing. This is a GUNS forum. If you don't like it, don't come here. It has a certain vibe. If you don't like it, there are LOTS of places that ride a different wave, so to speak. It's not like you have to choose ONE site for all your surfing needs. If you want a piece of information, come here, get your info, and surf back on over to www.IwantTOtalkABOUTeverythingELSE.com.

The Mods run a tight ship. Every organization that has ever adhered to a set of principles has had to endure the slings and arrows of thousands of ungrateful participants who reaped the benefits of their dedication. If you have a problem with a thread closure, PM the Mod that closed it and find out what's up. If you still disagree, and can't accept a polite "Oh well," they'll give you a FULL refund of all the money you paid to join.

And regarding the "Siamese sites:" There is a legal deliberation in the works regarding that issue. If you aren't party to that legal deliberation, then assume that you don't have all the information, comprehend that you don't have a dog in the fight, relax, sit back, and await a conclusion. Or, as I suggested before, simply pick which version of the sites you prefer to adhere to and go there. Vote with your feet. (Er...vote with your a$$? Nobody surfs while standing, I guess.)

I'm not a Mod so such things are not my decision, but it is a testament to the patience of them all that this thread is still open. This tortured navel-staring is not in any way "on topic" for a "General Gun Discussions" forum.

Pretty close, I like computers so it's between this and my other hobby. It seems better to me lately as far as locked down posts go. There are a lot of repeat questions, but I guess that's just the way it is with anything. People should use the search function more instead of asking the same thing over and over.
Lot's of nice folks, a little over the top sometimes, but hey it's a free country last time I checked, "hopefully it stays that way".
Mods been giving us more latitude "at least it seems to me", so here I stay.
