never never land...never land here!
Does anyone know about this brand of AK?

How does it compare to the others?

apologies for, yet another AK question, but, our AK guru (self proclaimed hehehe) is gone for a while and cannot be contacted till next week. I need to know if these things are good, bad, or what...and how they compare to all the other popular brands.

And BTW...how do these AK's compare? Polish Tantal, CZ VZ-58/VZ-2008, Yugo M70 AB2

I have a good chance to get the Yugo M70 for myself, just wondering....

Better then Wasrs and yugos, worse then Arsenals and saigas. Its the middle of the road AK.

Well, a VZ-58 is not a Kalashnikov, FWIW. Different parts, different system, even the mags are different.

VERY nice guns, though. I'd take that one first, and then the Yugo.

Lancaster has been having some problems with their recent Bulgarian AK-74s. Seems they won't cycle properly and need to go back to them for service.

Mine has been flawless. If you are basing that off of THR there have been like 2 folks with issues which seem to have been taken care of. Not much of a trend.

I purchased one through a dealer about a year ago, which I've been happy with, but since then I've read about a number of problems that customers have encountered (customer service, order fulfilment, delayed purchases, etc.) with Lancaster when dealing direct with them. The owner, Chet Durda, does not appear to have a very good reputation in the online forums. If you can order one through a dealer you'll probably be much better off.

I have counted four on THR and other forums with 74's bought through Atlantic Firearms.

I have talked to Chet Durda personally at shows here in the Tucson/Phx area, and I believe he is having someone else build the 74's.

He says the kits are new or like new, though I heard some barrels are US made.

He was willing to sell me one for $400 at a recent show in Tucson. I declined, since I already own an Arsenal 74.

I think he is trying to unload them as quickly as he can...JMO.

I've got a Lancaster Arms AK-47 and have owned it for about 2 years now. Never had a single hiccup, gun is well constructed, and I have zero complaints.

I don't own numerous other AK's to compare it to, but I'd give them a big thumbs up.

I just received my Lancaster Arms AK74 Rough Rider from Atlantic Firearms about 2 weeks ago. It's the first AK I've ever owned and I love it! Its gone through a few hundred rounds without a single problem. The fit, finish and features (muzzle break, two mags, bayonet, parkerized finish etc) for only $470 is (to me) and outstanding deal. Especially considering that local dealers are selling POS WASR's for about $30 less than that. I too have heard the horror stories about dealing directly with Lancaster, but my experience with Atlantic Firearms was outstanding. Of course, that is a 5.45x39...not the 7.62x39.

I like it so much that I ordered a psop 6x42 scope to go with it yesterday.

We offer a wide selection of AK 47 & 74 rifles and try to offer perks or discounts on rifles for HR members . We will be glad to discuss the best rifle to fit your needs.

As one of the people who had a defective Lancaster AK-74, I am happy to report that the replacement one they sent me works like a charm.

I'm local to Lancaster and bought one of their Tantals. Build quality was ok, it didn't like SP ammo though.

I won't buy another one though. Their customer service is lousy. And they have an annoying habit of charging your credit card immediately even if the rifle is 8 weeks away...

Just got my Lancaster-built Egyptian AK-47 from Atlantic Firearms this week. Very nice rifile compared to my WASR 10/63 and Atlantic was great to deal with.

Yeah, Lancaster makes a beautiful rifle, but their customer service is terrible! I ordered a Russian Red back in March and they told me it would take 4 - 6 weeks til I got it, it took 5 months. If it's gonna take 5 months, then tell me 4 - 6 months, I'm fine with that, just don't tell me 4 -6 weeks, you'll save us both a lot of pointless conversations.

After numerous phone calls and plenty of give me a call in a few weeks and I'll you'll have one in a week type of excuses, I finally got it. Of course they charge your c.c when you place the order, which I don't really mind. But I got to the point where I was approaching the deadline as to when my c.c. would remove a charge from my bill - essentially taking the money back from Lancaster. So I was willing to go up to this deadline and not after it - I wanted to have some type of recourse if they kept dickin around with me. My next to last phone call I told them either I'm getting a rifle or I'm canceling the order, and get this, Mike said if I cancel the order I have to pay them a 25% restocking fee. A $200 fee for them to 'restock' my rifle. RESTOCK MY RIFLE WHERE?!?!? If you're gonna charge me to restock the rifle then that must mean you have the rifle not sitting on a shelf but rather wrapped up and ready go? So send me the damn thing!!! All you're gonna do after you 'restock' it is charge someone else $900 for it. As you can guess I definitely was not going to go pass my c.c. reimbursement deadline. After threatening to cancel and telling him I wouldn't pay a restocking fee he said my rifle was going out the next day and to call back to get the tracking number. Side note: I called the next day and Mike didn't have the tracking number, I figured this was another one of his runarounds, but he called me later that day with it.

I don't remember the exact details, but when I got the invoice for my rifle I came to reasonable conclusion that my rifle was pulled off of someone else's order - I think me complaining enough and threatening to cancel the order probably ended up screwing over someone else that didn't complain as much.

So, how about a rifle review: it looks awesome, the gun is so beautiful, the wood is beautiful*. I put a 100 rounds of Wolf through it and it was fine. One problem I had: the lug nut on the base of the gas block, that serves as a guide for the cleaning rod, broke clean off. I was annoyed that the gas block wasn't one solid piece - it looked like the lug was just tacked or braised on. I called Lancaster about it and Chet said it never it happened in 17 years before - he sounded very graciuos about me shipping it back for them to fix it. One problem: I don't feel comfortable sending them a $900 rifle now that I can't get my money back from the c.c. company. I don't think it would be a problem, but it took so long to get my rifle I'm not giving it up that easy, just for a little lug nut that serves no real function - it's not like the functionality of my gun was affected. I did just super glue it back and I'm letting it sit for a while. After the fact I noticed that the lug was off center from the hole where the cleaning rod goes in. I think this might have put added tension on that lug and that may have been the reason it snapped off after it got hit or something. I'll see how it works out.

*If you want to keep the wood looking beautiful DON'T put a sling on your rifle - the metal on it scratched the hell out of my wood near the handguard where the sling connects. Really pissed I did that, and I only really put the sling on for the look of it.

Sorry for the long @ss reply, but had to get some stuff off my chest, that I think other's would want to read. I know I'll like to hear all the good and bad stuff when other's deal with gun companies.

Check their revised website. THey have indicated an expected delay on orders so expect a long wait. Go for a dealer like Atlantic or AIMs.

I've had a heck of a time with this company on the customer service end. I've shot a few of their rifles and they are very good in my opinion. If you want a Lancaster, deal with Atlantic or AIM, you'll save yourself many headaches and it won't tie up your money over a few months. My order from November is supposed to be shipping here after a few more phone calls, we shall see.

Just saw this on their website - looks like they realized they need to improve on their customer relations.

Many Changes

As of 1 February, 2010 all orders will not be charges unless the order can ship within a 48 hour period. Production schedules will be revised to a 90 day period .The extended production schedule will allow for delayed shipments of imported and domestically purchased products. This will provide more realistic delivery dates.

We are investing in additional CNC machines and equipment to accommodate the high demand for milled and stamped rifles. We have taken steps to streamline our customer service with new experienced personnel.

I thank our many customers for there support in the past and pledge that the changes we are making will provide an improved experience for our customers in the future.

During the month of February all Lancaster Products will be offered at discount prices! Our way of saying thanks for your patience

Does anyone know about this brand of AK?

Yes, Lancaster is a high-quality high-end AK. Awesome fit, finish, function, and feel. I have a Polish underfolder, the thing could be in a musuem- flawless.

Its the middle of the road AK.

Not sure where this is coming from. I own Red Jacket and Vector rifles, and my Lancaster is as nice if not nicer.

He says the kits are new or like new, though I heard some barrels are US made.

There is nothing wrong with AK barrels being US made. This got producers around the Dec 2005 ATF ban on foreign barrels, plus if you check the site- you get a stainless steel US made barrel at no extra cost. I'd rather get that than some 20 or 30 year old surplus barrel.

Yeah, Lancaster makes a beautiful rifle, but their customer service is terrible! I ordered a Russian Red back in March...

I've noticed this bandwagon-type complaining about Lancaster. They made an honest mistake. They bit off more than could chew during "Obama panic" of last winter and spring (when many consumers were panicking and screaming "the sky is falling" Obama is taking our guns) and fell behind on production. Sure they should have been more accurate about productoin and ship times, but it seems like they've taken steps to correct this.

They are currently offering discounts on their web site. I just ordered another AK from them last week.

Here are some pics of my Lancaster Polish UF to give you an idea of the quality:
