this may be a stupid question, but if i shoot sellier-bellot ammo thru my sks, do i have to do anything special to clean it? its a yugo- any special considerations in cleaning, etc?

clean it just like any other gun/ammo combo. you need to take the gas piston out after maybe 500 rounds to clean it and the gas port and gas tube but other then that no

thanks- i've seen all the windex, etc protocols for corrosive ammo and was a little hesitant- i think i'll stick to the clean stuff. any suggestions?

If you shoot russian ammo like wolf and golden bear you will fine. I haven't heard of any of the commercial russian ammo being corrosive. Mark

How do you clean the gas port? I know how to remove the piston and clean it but where exactly is the port and what should be used to clean it? Can it be gotten to easily?

After you have the tube and piston off, there is the post / hole on the barrel that the front of the tube sat in. This is the gas port. You can move the cut off to open / close it if you would like to let some cleaner sit in there for a couple seconds before it just runs out the barrel.

Can I clean the thing out with maybe a Q-tip or pipe cleaner or maybe a chamber brush?
Just guessing because I don't really know what you mean when you say the "cut off".

Pipe cleaner would work but they also make a brush for it that isn't stiff like a chamber brush so that it will bend when you put it through.

As for the cut off - On top of the gas block you should see a round flat knob looking thing. This is the gas cut off. You should be able to push it in and turn to the side. It's definitely a Yugo right?

Sorry I thought we were still working on JC77's Yugo. They have an integrated grenade launcher and gas shutoff. You can clean yours the same way there's just no way to stop the cleaner from running straight through.

So what you're saying is I put some bore cleaner in it and then have to get the residual cleaner out of the barrel with a rod or bore snake?
