oh man i am stoaked for this! i love the classic GI style 1911s, and the fact its a remington means it'll go bang everytime unlike my POS springer GI

They aren't offering a GI style piece. It isn't M1911 style, and it isn't 1911a1 style. It's just more a generic civilian 1911. It may turn out to be fine pistol, but GI it ain't!

Not even for sale yet and you make this pronouncement?

How big is your crystal ball?

Well, if their new 1911 model get the same quality and workmanship they put into their 870 pump shotguns and 700 series bolt action rifles, we should be in for a treat. Of course building a great 1911 pistol, is a lot different than building a shotgun or a rifle, but I think they should do a good job of it.

KodiakBeer, That rare Remington 1911 is absolutely beautiful!

The 1911 is different animal. Just ask sig. At the time they introduced the GSR no one had a better Rep for reliability then sig. The GSR was made from hand picked premium parts and SIG could not put them together properly. I wish all the early adopters luck. LOL

It looks pretty nice to me and I don't think we can have too many good quality choices in an entry level 1911.

does the lifetime warranty transfer to a second owner, i bought the gun used from a buddy in a tight spot.

when i said itll go bang everytime because its a remington i was alluding to the fact that my 870, 700, 798, and 1100 are the most reliable guns i own and i imagine remington would carry that tradition over to whatever they do, so my crystal ball is more of a big steel safe full of past experience with the brand

+1 on the modern MIM parts, my kimber is running on them 5000 strong and no breakages yet

High MIM parts count in a $700 base 1911 I will pass. If you want reliable proven mim get a Springer.... I do not understand he excitement if it was a $500 gun I would be interested but at $700?????

It makes no sense to me. People continue to reference the 870 Shotty which IMHO is so highly valued because it is cheap and runs like a champ.

In today's 1911 market $700 is not cheap for unproven product. Ymmv

Yeah, I guess we'll juat have to see what they really sell for. With a MSRP of $699.00, I was thinking of a real retail of somewhere in the $575.00 range but that could be wishful thinking.

I agree if we are talking about a sub $600 gun its horse of different color. In line with springers but made here. Again IMHO why all the excitement there are tons of aggressive 1911 already on the market?????

Why are so many people concerned about MIM parts?.
Cause they don't belong in a 1911. IMHO of course.

unlike my POS springer GI
Springer will make your POS run if you call them and let them.

It may turn out to be fine pistol, but GI it ain't!
Yep. The firing pin block is killing it for me on this R1 1911. Really disappointed.

Mim parts....ehhhhh

If they were offering a high end reproduction of the original 1918 Remington M1911, then maybe you'd expect to get all forged, milled steel. But, they're offering a basic mid-level 1911 and Mim can keep the costs down.

I've got a Kimber with a serial number starting with two zeroes followed by four digits - early, and I know it has Mim parts and I've put thousands and thousands of rounds through it with no breakage. Would I prefer the Mim parts were forged steel? Yes. Am I willing to pay to have the Mim parts replaced - absolutely not! I've got better things to do with my money.

I'm a 1911 guy. I love them. I'd prefer no Mim, but in a basic shooter, who cares? Mim has proven functional and reliable and less expensive, so put the money saved into ammo.

when you really love a design like the 1911 a new brand or subtle variation is just appealing...why will people make a big out of burger kings new buck double burger? especially when mcdonalds was smart enough to make it years ago? because variety is the spice of life....thats why i have a kimber, springer, colt and rock island; or why some people have multiple ARs

and again i ask does the lifetime guarantee transfer to used owners for my "POS springer"? because id love to use it for more than a frame for my kimber conversion

Just got the email, been a long time fan of Remington shotguns. I won't run out and buy one first thing but I will plan to add one of these to my safe. I already own a Springer GI. If the R1 turns out to be a quality piece and after its gotten its feet wet who could complain about a quality mid-price 1911. Also looked through some of their supporting merchandise, they already have 8 round mags and a set of black plastic grips that I think look spiffy :)

Also, I never find the 700 dollar Colts here. Here in South Central WV, the Colt name gets a premium. I've only felt burnt on one 1911, that was a Charles Daily. I still have it, but it stays in the safe. I haven't found ammo yet that it likes. Thinking about replacing some springs in it till I can find the issue...if that doesn't work to the smithy it goes.

Hey Kodiakbeer, nice Remington. A family member of mine has one of those Remingtons. Your blueing is in better shape than his. His is all original and it still shoots nice (we haven't shot it much). He has some ammo that was made at about the time the gun was and the holster too. I don't see too many people around that have them. Most people think when I say Remington that it's a Remington Rand. It's good to see there's another member on here that has one of them.

Hmm so Remington is getting back in the handgun business, hopefully a reissued 51 is in our future? I'd buy one in a second.

why are so many of you quick to disapprove of a "cheap" 1911?
i have a taurus and a para ord both of which i bought in that price range and they work fine, just the occasional hiccup...cheap doesnt mean bad, my kimber raptor probably had more issues starting out than my "cheap" guns...i just see a bargain, and if the bargain turns into a lemon i see a reason to invest in some of wilson's "high quality/overpriced" parts and have a reason to tinker on a gun for a weekend...

im sure most of you would pay 600 for a glock or 92fs and expect it to function exceptionally, but shouldnt your logic shown here mean that the glock and 92fs should be unreliable?

just my two cents

o and totally agree on the ruger 1911 (BTW ruger adapts products based on customer feedback! send in your request thatll make two of us whove done it)

way ahead of you elton...ive already contacted them about it lol....if they came out with a stainless commander, i would put any and all other gun purchases off for a while to get one
