looking for a wondernine - CZ vs Sig vs someother non Glock

I recently bought my 1st CZ.. a 75D (Euro version of P0-1), came with two 14 round mags. ~500 rounds and zero issue. The rubber grip has great ergo, shoots better than I can. The grip may be a tad big for small hands, but hold one or try shoot one to be sure... there are also thinner grip alternatives out there in case one finds the grip is too big.

I carry it in a HBE Com3 (IWB) holster and I find it very comfortable to carry all day despite it is an all metal gun -- even for a small frame like myself (155lb 32" waist). They have a PCR model which is almost identical to P0-1 except that it has a slimmer frame up front making it even more comfortable to carry.

CZ has a .22 kadet kit which will work across 75B, 75D (P-01 and PCR), so it is a bonus to go with CZ.

I have have owned a Sig, I did hold a few over the years, although they are solid guns but somehow it is not for me. So.. I cannot compare the two.

Over the years I have (and had) Ruger SP101, H&K USPc, Kahr PM and Bersa 380... I like the ergo of CZ the most while it is as solid and reliable as the H&K.

It sounds like you want a steel framed weapon that doesn't need to be too carry friendly. I don't care for Berettas, so I can't help you there. I'd go with the CZ 75, stainless if you don't mind the premium. Take a hard look at Gen 3 S&W's like the 5906. Those are solid, reliable weapons. Sigs are great. I don't know if the aluminum frame will go the distance with a CZ. The 226, or 228 fit your description. I had a TT 228 but it didn't shoot for me for some reason. Most seem to like them. I prefer my 225, but that's not what you need. If you really want capacity, function, and the sweetest ergos in the hi cap 9's, go with the Hi Power. Browning or FN only...they're the same gun.

That's a toss up in my opinion between a Sig P226, Beretta 92, or as said above a S&W 5904/5906. Check these out and one will probably fit the build. Be sure and choose a good round that maximizes the performance of the round. Corbon DPX, Winchester Bonded PDX-1, Speer gold dot, Hornady TAP or critical defense just to name a few. Wow, tough choice!

the beretta 92 is a nice gun, but the sig p226 and cz 75 have better ergos imho. between the cz 75 and sig p226 i would choose the cz 75. not that it is any better, i just do not care for how high the sigs barrel is off of the frame. it may not matter to you. i don't think there are any dogs in these choices.

also give the browning hi power a look. classic design, similar to the 1911, beautiful, and has an excellent track record.

The CZ-75 or a SW 5906 are IMO just as good as a Sig, but for several hundred less. The S&W can be had for around 300 LNIB and a CZ for 400-450.

However, Sig's are fantastic also.

Get which ever you like the most aesthetically. They're all great.

I have a SA EMP 9mm 1911 and it's a great pistol. Accurate, great trigger, and is small enough to easily conceal. No plastic either.

A great shooter for plinking and protection.

I use a S&W 6906 with the adapter for the 5906 mag-15+1

Standard= Polished Blue finish (prettiest)
MkIII= Black Matte Epoxy finish (most durable)

Both are the same "MkIII" design (most current).

Why would you not go glock? All other nines are inferior.

As much as I lurves me my CZ's, heigh to a range with a rental counter and try one for yourself first. They may or may not be your cup of tea, and you may find one of the other nines out there as being more to your liking.

Dogtown nailed the differences. The Standards are beautiful to behold - with their bright blue finish. The MKIII has the durable enamal finish. The Standard can also be had with adjustable sights.

Wutupjeez: I've had my share of Glocks. They are extremely reliable and pretty darn accurate too. If another 9 is just as reliable, fits the hand, and you don't mind the weight, how is it inferior?

Sigs, Czs, S&W Third Generations, and Beretta 92s are all dead-nuts reliable with OEM mags. I'm not a big fan of the Beretta 92, or standard frame Sigs, because I find the grips too large for my hands. That's just me though; you might be different. Fire them all and get what you like best because you can't go wrong with any of the above.

May I ask why you won't consider a polymer framed pistol?

SIG 226 ... not the most beautiful gun known to man, but it makes the holes where you want them ... everytime

I would go inexpensive for a car/truck gun. Get the CZ or a good used Sig or Browning/FN.

So many fine pistols to choose from: CZ PCR, S&W M&P, Beretta PX4, FN FNP9 & Springfield XD just to name a few.

Consider that four of your five recommend choices are polymer frame guns which flys contrary to the OP's specification:

Gosh, there are only about 2,000 different choices if you include plastic frames.

Fantastic plastic...it really is good. Metal frames limit your options.

You could always get a metal frame for a Glock. Unfortunately, it costs as much as another Glock. However, you could sell the frame for around $250-300 or put a 22 conversion kit on it. You are also limited to the Glock 17 and 34...a solid choice.

Other options off the top of my head:

Kahr makes metal frame single stacks. The Kahr T-9 may be what you're looking for.

1911 in 9mm. STI stands out, especially their Tactical 4.15. What's not to like about 26+1 capacity? SVI offers 29+1.... Single stacks are available from must about every manufacturer. Ooops...forgot the STI guns have plastic frames. SVI then.

Springfield and Kimber both have 9mm guns. The SA EMP seems nice.

SIG P225, P226, P228, P229, P239, and X5.

Browning Hi-Power. They're good, but need work out of the box. Dehorn, remove the magazine safety, night sights, bevel the magazine well, and refinish. Browning released them again, but cranked the price up to around $900 (for a $500-600 gun). At that price, I'd get a higher end SIG P229 or just get the 1911.

CZ's have already been mentioned. It's probably the lowest cost option short of a CDNN S&W or other used gun. The guns are in production, so parts should be available.

I dislike the older S&W guns. They don't feel right to me. I also dislike relying upon discontinued guns for self-defense (car gun). However, there is something to be said about a trade-in from CDNN...the price may be perfect.

Personally, I'd just get a SIG P229 Elite or P229 E2. SIG out of the box should be reliable (if it's not, it's broken). The SIGs are quite good with their SRT trigger, a trigger job and some night sights. SIG also offers a P229 in 22 Long Rifle for cheap practice.

If you just want a $500 gun, then get one of the CZ's. I like the CZ-85. CZ offers a ton of variants, including a single action version.

Stoeger Cougar. 15 +1, alloy frame, great ergonomics, accurate, soft shooting, manufactured on the Beretta Cougar machinery in Turkey by Stoeger which is owned by Beretta. $419 at Bass Pro Shops.

I've had a CZ75B as well as a Beretta 92. Both were great guns, for me it would be a toss-up. For me, I feel the Beretta is significantly larger than the CZ, is that an issue for you?

If I had to choose today I would choose the CZ just for the sze issues. Both guns were 100% reliable and I would go up against the Zombies any day of the week with either of them.

With an answer like this I should probably be a politician, No?

If you like the 1911 platform, the CZ 75B "SA" is a best kept secret. The trigger is much better than the DA/SAs and with some simple work can be great. Comes with 16 rd mags and accepts the SPO1 19rd mags smoothly. Mags, parts and 'upgrades' are cheaper than Sig.

I shoot both Sig and CZ 9mm. The Sig is a fine gun that runs on any ammo I've fed it.

My 75B DA/SA is also a fine gun, but I had to smooth the trigger out some and it has a long pull in DA.

For the range/competition, I much prefer the CZ.
