So Power Valley has some stuff I'd like to purchase in stock and cheap. Way cheaper than locally. The problem is I noticed this on their site.

FFL'S ARE NO LONGER REQUIRED. However, Non-FFL'S must send a copy of your driver's license and a statement that the storage does not violate any Federal, State or Local Laws. If you have a FFL, we would like a copy. Please include your Phone Number.

So what kind of statement do I include? I'm not sure what it means here.

I've ordered from them and have had many friends order from them. They do a great job.

I suggest calling them on the phone and asking them exactly what they want. (I set my account up so long ago I have no idea anymore.)

I have bought from PV several times.

They want a copy of your drivers license to verify age and residence. Attach it to an email. In that email write that your state does not prohibit you from buying and storing powder/primers at your residence, if that is true. I don't know your state laws, you'll have to find that out for yourself.

That's it.

Powder Inc., has a form you can print off and either fax it or mail it back to them. If Powder Valley has no such form, just fax a copy of your DL along with a note that says you're within the limits for storage in your state of residense. I see that Jumping Frog has just made a post that should clear up your questions....:D

Are there any states that don't allow you to buy powder? I didn't know there were any that didn't allow it.

This is a check in the box thing for their legal folks.
I'd just write " storage does not violate any Federal, State or Local Laws" and sign it. Funny, I just ordered 2 months back and don't remember any such requirement. Great folks!

It helps a lot if you can get a few others together and make an order totaling close to 48 pounds, which is the maximum which can be shipped on a single hazardous-materials fee.

I and some friends placed an order for 48 pounds a few months back, and the TOTAL per pound, for shipping and haz-mat from Kansas to northern Nevada, was just over ONE dollar per pound. Some of our powder was delivered with a savings of over $10 per pound, compared to local prices.

Powder Valley is an excellent outfit with which to do business.

So how can I verify that it's legal to store powder in our state? I've just bought powder in 1 pound jugs from Wally World in the past so never had to wonder about it. I was planning to just order an 8 pound jug and some primers.

Powder valley reputation.

slowrider, I just ordered some V V powder from them. All I can say is they treated me like an old regular customer, the lady was very nice & kept her word in getting the order out right away, the order was packed & shipped perfect. Arriving to me the same way. I would order from them in a heart beat again. Super Co. to do business with. This was my 1st order from them. I've heard from reading diff. forums in the past that they were indeed 1 st class, now I know for sure that they are a 1 st class Co. Not to worry, go ahead & order from them slowrider. Happy shooting , k&j 223

Just curious if that is something new with PV? When I ordered powder and primers from them they new it was OK to ship to me by my address. I could send a copy of my DL if I wanted the order to be left at the door. If I didn't want to send a copy then somebody 21 years old had to sign for the package.

I've ordered from PV about once a year since about 2005. I don't remember sending them any forms other than maybe a copy of my DL.

(I think I'm pretty well set for life now on primers and powder unless my reloading takes a really big uptick. Of course there's still a half a dozen or so powders I want to try...)

I cant say anything about the forms but they are a great company. I used to live in Winfield, Kansas which is where they are located, and I still visit quite often. I called them about 9am one morning because I forgot to place an order online and arrived at the store just before noon and they had my order ready and sitting on the desk when I got there. Great company and highly recommended

I have ordered from them several times and have been very happy. I don't remember sending them anything. I may have faxed them a copy of my DL only. I have ordered from some places that want to DL to verify age and I have ordered powder and primers from others that only wanted a valid credit card. Powder Valley has competitive prices and I highly recommend.

I don't order often - just try to save up for enough to make it worth the Haz Mat fees. My last order from April 2009 showed up a couple weeks ago (backordered primers). They let me know several times I could back out if I wanted, or keep waiting.

Good people. Been buying from them for 7-8 years.

I just orderd and received 6lbs of powder, and several thousand primers this week, Didn't even see the notice you mentioned. But I didn't send them any ID, just call ask.

I just looked at the site, still don't see the notice?

Scroll down on the main page. That's where it was for me. I will have to call and check with them. Their prices are way cheaper than locally even with Hazmat fee's.

Just wanted to add that I thought they were a very good company to deal with. Also very fast shipping if they have it in stock.

I have ordered from them several times through the interweb, and never have sent them anything but my cc card number.

:)

Do they hold up the order untill they can ship it all at once, or willl they kill you with haxmat charges on each shipment?

richard

I think I sent a copy of my driver's license by email when I first started ordering from them a couple of years ago.

They are a good company to deal with. When they are out of stock, you can't backorder, then I use Graf's for backorders--http://www.grafs.com/. They are also a good company to deal with.

Both will charge hazmat fees for 'each' shipment to you.

Dude, you just answered your own question. If it wasn't legal in your particular state, the local Wallyworlds wouldn't be selling it.

Most states (or cities) have fire codes governing how much powder, primers, etc. can be stored in a residence, business, etc. Some require a powder magazine when the quantity hits a certain threshold (so I've heard).

International Fire Code (IFC) is what cities typically use to govern storage of accelerants, explosives, and other fun toys.

The max amount of smokeless or black that can be stored in the original container was 20 lbs. Any quantity over 20 lbs, but less than 50, required a wooden box or cabinet with walls at least an inch thick. More than 50 lbs required a separate structure designated as a magazine. The garage don't count unless its a physically separate structure. The back shed would work as long as you move the grease gun, gas can, mowers, road flares, and other flammables. Maximum primer storage is 10,000 in a residential locale. Got more? Build another magazine, cause you can't store powder and primers in the same container. Yes, single-room buildings are considered containers.

The above is a direct quote, with some colorful embellishment, from my local fire chief. He was kind enough to include the IFC 2006 codes that directly affected me in the e-mail. He also suggested I not scare the holy hell out of my neighbors by telling them the reason for a dirt igloo in my back yard, should I need to build one.

If you happen to be really bored, you can look at the current IFC code in any library. The relevant section was 3306 last I looked. Most cities use International Fire Code as their city fire code. Why? Because writing their own fire code that basically mimics IFC regs would be a real WOMBAT (waste of money, brains and time).

And they say us rednecks caint reed. ;)

From their home page:

BACKORDERS: You may order out of stock items. If you place an order for out of stock items your order will be shipped when the items are available. Should you place a combined order for in stock and out of stock items your order will be input in the system until all items are available unless you specify otherwise. In stock items will not be held waiting on out of stock items to arrive. Should you wish for the in stock items to be shipped immediately please note this on your order. There will be shipping charges on each box shipped.Requests for notification prior to shipping could result in significant delays on orders being filled.

I have done business with them once, this spring. Since I don't like the hazmat charge, I drove the 60 miles and paid them a visit. Real nice folks. Well-organized and willing to help their customers. I will do business with them again! :)
