Maybe somebody can help me out here. I went to the range today with my Ruger SR9. It's been flawless for a couple thousand rounds but today an issue arose. After a couple hundred rounds I was finishing up on the last 4 I had with me. It jammed up with the slide partially back. Clearly the spent case only backed out of the chamber about 1/2 way and the round in the magazine caught it from below. I had a bit of a problem getting the magazine out but finally did. Then I think I screwed up. I closed the slide on the spent case hoping to rack it clear. Nothing doing. I've tried everything I can think of but the slide refuses to move more than about 1/8" back. I figured I'd try you folks before I contact Ruger for help. Any ideas?

Did the bullet make it out of the barrel? try getting a wooden dowel and putting it in the muzzle end of the gun and try giving it a few good hits, and see if that will loosen the case.

Take out mag (in case you put it back in)

With your LEFT hand, establish a FIRM overhand grip on the slide, behind the ejection port, thumb facing you. ONLY GRASP THE SLIDE, NOT THE FRAME.

Now, make the grip FIRMER....

Holding the gun with only your left hand, take your RIGHT hand and and JAM your hand into the back of the grip, holding as still as possible with your left hand.

Usually, 3-4 reps will unjam the gun. If not, then we need a dowel rod and hammer....

Already tried both. Not even close to freeing it. I'm thinking it's not the case directly jamming it but blocking something else. It's a solid metal to metal stop. I've seen a lot of jamming issues with a lot of different pistols but this one has me stumped.

Got it guys. Thanks for your advice. I finally got the slide open and could see the spent case. The primer was gone. This was a factory Winchester Ranger round. I ended up using a piece of aluminum rod to wack it since a wood dowel didn't touch it. A couple of serious blows cleared it. I don't know what happened. Maybe a serious over charge? The extractor looks to be damaged but everything else checks out OK. I know Ruger builds tanks but I didn't figure the SR9 to be one of them.
