All steel, all black P226?

I've only seen a few instances of such a SIG on the internet. How rare are all german, all steel, all black (I think ilaflon coated) P226's with no beavertail, and no rail? I think they were called P226 SL's.

I think a rail would be nice but not necessary, and I don't see the need for a beavertail, but an all steel P226 seems really nice, an all german seems really really nice, and an all black, steel, and german gun seems like the holy grail.

I like german steel, and I like black. Are these "grail guns" the answer or is it way way easier to coat a bare stainless model.

Just thought I'd bump with a pic (doesn't look all that special i know). I'm starting to think this was a silly question. Does anyone know anything about these steel framed guns?
 
What makes you think the frame is steel and not AL alloy? I'm not an expert but I never heard of what you describe.

It looks like a German stamped steel "slide" to me with the regular alloy frame. If that is the case it is not that rare, altough they are often preferred to the cast stainless slides being made now.

I have one made in 1989 in pristine condition. I bought it used for $500 a couple of years ago. There's a code under bottom of slide near barrel end that tells the year made. For instance, mine has JK which stands for 1989. Do a search, there are plenty of threads regarding the old Sig codes and such.
 
There is no way it could exist. If it did they would be pumping them out as fast as they could to keep up with demand. But because they all only make what they want to sell it will remain in "grail gun" status.
 
I also have never heard of a P226 ever being made with an all steel, all black frame. I'd certainly find it interesting to know more about such a configuration if they really do exist.

I'm pretty sure there are stainless models that have a stainless frame and slide. I'm also pretty sure there are guns with alloy frames and stainless slides.

I don't think there are many guns that are steel (I dont know if carbon or stainless) framed and have black ilaflon or nitron coatings for both the frame and slide. I'm just not a fan of bare stainless, plus, stainless is not really impervious to corrosion, so a coating would be beneficial from that standpoint as well.

In 2001 Sauer also came out with a model called the P226 SL, this is essentially the standard P226 with a stainless steel slide and frame, although it has the standard carbon steel barrel. This is not to be confused with the earlier P226 SL, a name Sauer applied to the P226 with stainless steel slide only when it first came out.

The current P226 SL is available with a bare stainless steel finish or with a coating of Ilaflon, the same stuff that your frying pan is probably coated with! Sauer have been heavily promoting this model for use in production class IPSC, although I suspect it will sell better in the US for law enforcement purposes.

At the time of writing there is no version of the P226 SL or the Sport models in any calibre other than 9mm, this is because they are largely intended for target shooting sports in Europe. I suspect the P226 SL will be made in other calibres eventually though.

Well, I guess there is such a model. Good luck finding one. I've seen the stainless unfinished versions, but never a black coated stainless framed one.
 
Come to think of it, I've seen stainless frames with cast stainless steel slides, but not with stamped carbon slides. So I guess that would be a find.
 
They certainly do exist, I bought one yesterday from a fellow shooter who has to stop shooting because of a badly permanent injured hand- working in a saw-mill and getting distracted is not a good combination!
I had the gun in my hand and it was as heavy al a lumb of lead, took a magnet from the bulletin board and it sticked to the frame at every place I wanted it, so it must be all steel.
I do not know about the age of the pistol, only that it has got not even 1000 rounds on its counter because the owner did just occasionally shoot it, he loved his .22LR pistols.
 
Just a note since it looks like you are new to the forum...... Look at the dates on the posts. You brought this thread back from over 3 years ago.

I think everyone is aware of the full line up of Sig guns now. No doubt this will be closed shortly since it no longer serves any purpose.
