I am trying to replace the plastic trigger guard for my Maverick but I cannot find the right part. Is the Mossberg 500 guard interchangeable with my model? Is there a specific name of the part I should be looking for? I am stumped and it's driving me crazy! :cuss:

It is, but then you wouldn't be able to have a safety since the Mossberg 500 trigger group utilizes a tang safety instead of the crossbolt safety on your Maverick 88

I think they intended these to be a throwaway gun. I have one that had a dent in the mag tube and I couldnt find a replacement for love or money. I wound up removing the dent with a ground down deep socket and some valve grinding compound. Good luck.

Come on, dude. Did you seriously write that or was that a joke? Too much alcohol or too little sleep? You have got to be kidding.

The trigger guard. They come up all the time between $30 and 45 or so.

Your mag tube. They run $10-25.

That's literally thirty seconds of searching on ONE site. I'm not even going to bother with the real parts suppliers like Numrich or Brownell's.

It seems I will have to go direct with Maverick Arms, thank you Onmilo and thanks for the Gunbroker links Rich but I do not want to buy a used part and I do not trust or make "auction" purchases. As far as Numerich and Brownelle's is concerned, I have searched both web sites and they do not list the trigger group for the Maverick 88. I contacted a Brownelles rep and they told me they carry the 500 but not Maverick. I agree that the Maverick being a "throw away" gun is a little far fetched but I would suggest you ask someone if they were joking before you throw a tantrum and accuse them of being drunk or sleep deprived. Also you should think twice before you assume that I have not done a through search. As I stated before I have done my due diligence and if it pains you so much to write a reply, do yourself and me a favor and DON'T!

I bought a Maverick 88 a few years back and changed out the stock for a ATI Collasible stock, been a solid gun for the $150 i paid for it new from Academy, But i would not consider it a throw away gun, sure has brought home alot of doves and turkeys for me

Seriously? Call Havlin Sales. Call Mossberg directly. It's hardly a rare gun and it's still in production. The mag tubes are the same as Mossberg 500 like most of the parts are.

Seriously, kids these days...

The Mav 88 is a 500A in nearly every respect. Hardly throwaway.

The sky is blue and water is wet unless its frozen, then its cold. Argue about that for a while. Been a member here for soon to be 5 years and have less than 30 posts. I guess that makes me a lurker. The Maverick is a Throwaway or sometimes called a Throwdown. Its Cheap Cheap Cheap. Cheap to buy, Cheaper to make and Cheaply made. You can bet on it. Like a Ford Escort or Hyundai Excell. You buy it to use it cause you cant afford much else and you drive the wheels off and then you leave it it where it quits. I like my Maverick down here in the swamp because it will kill a copperhead or a rattlesnake at a distance. If it falls off the tractor and I run over it I havent lost much. I go get another one. Ive used mine for three years it still works and it doesnt owe me anything at this point. Thats my opinion, my point of view or if you cant quite get your mind around that its just the way I see it. Have a nice rest of your life...without me.

I don't consider a Model 88 a throw-a-way but I do consider mine a beater gun.
It goes where my much nicer shotguns wouldn't dream of going, duck boats, rain/snow soaked deer stands, through the merry bramble bushes looking for rabbits, etc.:)

The sky is blue

Tell you what, bud....next time you can't find a common, dime a dozen part because you're too busy or too rich to spend two mins to look for it, send that "throw away" gun my way. I'll even pay the postage. I'm guessing I shouldn't hold my breath, though, right?

I think it's awesome that I log on here to get help with something and instead of just suggesting something helpful and moving on people feel the need to add a smart ass comment! Suit yourself, newbie? Why does not wanting to buy on an auction site make me a newbie? Also in the future you should try and keep track of who your talking to and what they're posting. I never said the Mav88 was a throw away, if I thought it was why would I want replacement parts?. If answering my question gets your panties in such a bunch why keep doing it?
