I have a maverick 88 that I want to do some tactical mods to.I was just wandering if it is interchangable with a Mossberg 500?I want to install a folding stock and a barrell shroud.I'm having trouble finding a finding a listing for Maverick on the sites that carry these parts, any input you guys can give me would be great! Thanks ca-c54

Trigger groups are different and the Maverick doesn't use the top mounted safety consequently the receivers are slightly different.
Maverick forearms are permanently pinned to the action rails and Mossbergs forearms can be removed from the action tube.
Everything else is the same and interchangable.

First accessory to get is plenty of ammo. After you've added a nice set of wear marks to your shotgun, you'll have a better grasp of what's needed and what's mere bling....

Most parts interchange.

What Dave posted.

The 88s I am aware of for Serious Use, are bone stock, have been shot a lot, to test for gun fit (one has Moleskin to raise the comb) , to see what ammunition it likes best on a pattern board, for 2 3/4" slugs, 00 buck.
Load testing allowed for reliability testing of these loads too.

Owners run from single guys, to single ladies, single moms, and couples.
These folks have fired anywhere from only 10K rds ( newest shooter this year) to who know? Some used to shoot 30K rds a year easy for 10-25 years.

Guns are back-ups, Cabin Guns, Guest House Guns, etc, ....price too good to not have these in case folks come to town, or at "the cabin" and need a gun.
Like having a Coffee Pot and Microwave, just part of the decor...
One does serious Tractor duty and Jonboat duty too.

These folks can shoot! They can fell something with a stick if need be...

I've had the 88, and such as speed feed rear stock and tac-star made for the 500 works fine. Sad thing is I became a snob and got a 870 magnum marine and a 590, stainless, Mossie with ghost ring sights. But I tell you, the 88 can hold it's own. It was a good gun and now I see there was no need to trade it off.

Like the guys above, plain as a microwave, but it's totaly a decent shotgun and will do the deed for a long time (and I've owned Winchester defenders to and I can say it's a good gun.)

Heck, if you can't do it with a Marlin 30/30, Maverick 88, and a Ruger 3 inch Gp-100, I doubt you can do it with anything (yea I got lots of others but I know these guns and they will do fine.)

I've got a Maverick 88 with an ATI pistol grip buttstock, a 6 shot side saddle, and a Tac-star Tactical light on the front of the magazine tube. All were ordered to fit either a Mossberg 500 or 590. So most of the parts are going to be interchangeable. I would think you would be ok with the shroud and stock.

I started off with a pistol grip and after shooting a few rounds of 3" buckshot and slug, I decided the pistol grip buttstock was the right move for me. I haven't looked back since.

On a sidenote, the Maverick 88 has been as awesome gun for me. I picked it up new in the box for $180 and I have shot well over 800 rounds without any problems or failures. For me, very reliable, outfitted the way I want it to defend, and a lot of gun for the money.

I also have a Remington 870 Express and it goes without saying, those are great guns as well.

I have owned & operated a Maverick 88 since 1990. Goes BOOM! on request, every time. With ammo it likes, will put the lead pieces where you point.

As Deaf Smith said, yeah as plain as a microwave. IIRC, mine came in a white box marked "12-Guage Pump Shotgun" ***

***Just kidding...but does anyone else remember when generic labled foods came out...in plain cans with white labels, marked "Green Beans" "Whole Kernal Corn" "Tomato Paste", etc? ? ? ?

Heh, yeah I remember. I also had a "plain label T-Shirt". It was a good joke.

Plain Mossy or Maverick works fine. Just add some way to carry ammo. Forget the shrouds and bayonet lugs. A light is always nice.

My favorite was the white can of "BEER"

You guys are giving me Repoman flashbacks. I'll have to dig that movie out, haven't seen it in years.......

As for the Mavericks, the more I hear about them, the less likely I think I am to get one in trade :(

Which is a shame as it would be ideal for what I want (an "Oh **it" gun").
