Also, if you want something more than just a red dot, the Millett DMS-1 is a lot of 1-4x scope for the money.

I run one of these on my competition carbine, and am satisfied with it. Level of performance is not the same as the $300- red dots, but is adequate for my needs.

You haven't said, though. Do you want a red-dot sight, or a magnified sight? There are a few 1-4x scopes that are pretty good, though they'll take you very close to your budget when you include a mount.

Wha is your price range? Uner $350 or under $100 or ???

The Falcon Menace 1.5-5x30 is very nice for shorter ranges and runs about $200.

I've heared good things about the iTac red dot site, bassically a copy of the Aimpoint H1, for $80 at Botach Tacitcal it's the best bang for your buck

Tirod - do you have the Lucid? Why do you recommend it? I've read every review I can find, and it doesn't seem to do much if anything better than the $150 Vortex, but it costs 50% more. In fact it costs more than half the price of an EOTech 512, which is US-made and has good military credentials. Not arguing, just curious to learn more.
