Popped up in a local classified ad today, so I bought it.

Looks to be a M&P model from probably around 1916-1917.

The kid selling it was savvy and held to his price.

I even tried the old "Well, this is all the cash I brought" trick.

Ended up going inside the hardware store nearby and getting another $20 cash with my debit card. :D

Serial number on the cylinder matches the frame.

Grips say: "Sports Inc. Chicago"

Barrel appears to have been shortened, front sight's been reinstalled, probably refinished in nickel.

Somewhere in the past someone fancied up their Smith. Imagine that? ;)

Nice revolver Doc. I have a 5" 1924 M&P that is never leaving my family. It is a great old revolver that has the classic "breaks like a glass rod" trigger...gotta love those old long actions!

Good looking (real) M&P. Learned to shoot handguns on one just a tad younger, about 50 years ago. Still have the gun, wouldn't part with it.

Good buy

S&W will ship you grips screws for less than $2.00. Very nice old gun. Good Luck!

A friend has one very similar to that piece, said it was his grandmas. His has ivory grips also, but the blued finish is nearly gone.
