Pocket Knives-Who feels naked without one?

Got my boy scout folder for my 8th birthday in 1968 and I lost it for a long time but I have it today. There have been very very few days since that birthday that I have been without a knife.
I hate feeling naked. I will turn the car around for my wrist watch, my cell phone and my pocket knife.

Pocket Knives-Who feels naked without one?

Country boys and sons and daughters of country boys. I have carried a pocket knife for oalmost sixty years, never once thinking of it as a weapon.

Naked? Nah!

When I go to bed at night, three things come out of my pants pockets and onto my side table:

My phone
My favorite pen
And my Sodbuster Jr.

In the morning, they go right back into the pockets of whatever pants I pick out for that day. I never used to be a pocket knife guy, but awhile back I dropped in here on a whim and started looking at various pocketknife threads. I fell in love with the Sodbuster, and snagged one of the $18 versions from Lowes. It's been my constant companion ever since.

I always carry one of my two speed-safe Kershaws. I find myself using one at least once a day. Even a small pocket knife can be an invaluable tool in many situations. Allways have been, always will be. Everyday tool, last ditch weapon.

I don't feel naked, but I feel like something is definitely missing on my person when I am without a blade. A knife is an essential tool for me. A day seldom passes without using a knife for something.

Ive got one on me right now some times 2 if im hunting or something hard on knives as for 3 or 4! whats the point maybe if i was doing some freelance wood carving or butchers work
I like to have one on me most of the time but ive learned to go with out mostly cus i lose them all the time but it sure chaps my you know what then someone tells me i cant have it i dont care where i am im not gonna stab anybody

well maybe if they try to stab me

I've had one since I was 8.
I've been through everything from old Richardsons of Sheffield barlows (that were sold in local newspaper shops on a card backing), to SAKs, my one and only Buck 110 FG (26 yrs old and still going strong), all manner of fixed blades, one Leatherman Supertool and finally my addiction to Case pocket knives.
When I get home from work my yellow Peanut goes from my work jeans to my other jeans. I can leave the house without my wallet but NEVER without my Peanut. Keys, Fenix E01 and the Case.
With the crazy knife laws in the UK even the Leatherman is too risky these days, but the little Case doesn't scare anyone.
I think it was Robert Ruark that said that he would rather leave the house without his pants than leave without a knife. I feel I have to agree wholeheartedly.

too many ?

Me ? I'm the guy they come to to open the package cause they know I always have at least one knife at all times (usually 2 or 3). Always been a fan of buckle knives . Forgot and was wearing my Gerber Touche on a trip to Vegas one year(pre TSA). Also have a Bowen Belt Knife on at most times.

Generally carry 3 knives...very seldom I will carry just two, each has a purpose. I grew up in a time when just about every male over age 8 had a pocket knife with them at all times.

I have 2 on my right now in the office... 3" folder and a Gerber mini paraframe... plus 2 more bigger blades that live in the Jeep.

I know exactly what you mean about feeling naked without at least 1 on me at all times...

Radio #*#*#

Why did the radio even have a dumb-ass like that on anyway? Yup, I have three pocket knives ready at all times. I pick out the one that suits my mood for that day. I wonder if that lady carries a nail file, clippers or scissors in her purse?

I've carried a poocket knife all my life. Currently carry 3" Puma. Have carried it for 10-12 years.

I went into a slight-panic the day i realized my pocket-clip on my knife broke and allowed knife to slip into bottom of my pocket,, it was then that i realized that my knife was worn-out !! i had it for almost 8-years without losing/breaking it !1 i've used it for everything from opening presents in those pesky and dangerously-sharp plastic bubble-packed toys to using it to chip my traps out of the ice after an un-expected re-freeze and im pretty sure it skinned coon's and coyotes by the dozen,, now after reading this post,i think i'll go get me something new !! and yes i do feel "vulnerable" or naked as you say without it..

Hard to believe a quality knife would be worn out after just 8 years...I would just get a new clip for it. This Case is over 40 and despite some thinning of the blades due to thousands of sharpenings it still gets pocket time.

I carry 2 knives every day, a Victorinox small "gentleman's" knife and a Benchmark folder in my back pocket. I probably use the small Victorinox every day for opening mail, boxes, filing my nails, cutting out a news article, clipping my nose hairs, trimming my mustache, screw drivers both flat and phillips, you name it, that little knife has done it.

Its kinda funny when it happens, but everytime we are at a birthday party or Christmas and people are opening packages... the inevitable question comes out, "Anyone have a pocketknife?" and my wife is quick to volunteer that I always have one on me... :)

When I am in the shower I do not have a knife on me, and I feel very naked then. I have the same sensation when in bed doing naughty stuff with my wife. She disapproves of me bringing a knife to bed with us. Other than that I guess...

I am going to admit something here I seldom mention for fears of being called paranoid but hanging on a hook in my shower is a Cold Steel FGX Cat Tanto. This is the reinforced fiberglass tanto with the rubber grip. I figure the chances of Mrs Bates showing up while I perform my morning body cleaning is just likely enough not to take a chance.

Growing up on a farm, I carried a pocket knife from age 6 or 7 to today at 67. I now carry a small case or buck single blade lock back, it's taken out of my pocket along with my car keys and small change at the end of the day and laid on the kitchen counter, to be put back in my pocket in the morning.

The kids of today are being pushed down by PC laws about knives and carrying them; my youngest son was sent home from school for three days for having a small knife in his coat pocket, that he forgot after a weekend camping trip several years ago. When the principle called saying my son was being sent home for three days because of the knife in his coat, I said ok, I could use him around here for three days as I had a few trees I needed to cut down. The principle asked if I was going to punish him; I said, hell no, whats the matter with the school system anyway. The knife was in his coat in a locker and was never seen by any body, but they had a locker search for drugs and found the knife.

I would have replied I was taking him out for pizza and ice cream then was going to teach him better concealment methods.

I am not as old as you but as a kid it wasn't uncommon for us to take .22s or shotguns on the school bus to school and drop them off in the principles office for squirrel, rabbit, or quail hunting after school let out. All you can do is to try and teach you kids that the schools are not right in what they are doing and in fact are trampling all of their rights and teaching lies. It took me a bit with my daughter to first teach her the truth about American history then explain why she had to, in effect, lie to pass the class.

It's a cultural thing...at least in the South anyway. From the time I was old enough to walk I was taught that a gentleman isn't properly dressed without a knife. If my BVDs had a pocket in them I would carry a knife when I was walking around the house with in only my BVDs on! The other issue for me anyway is that my knife must always be kept sharp. If it won't shave the hair off my arm its no good!
