What is the best Taurus out there?

My vote is for the PT92, it is the only Taurus I have owned that has been consistently reliable and well built. I had a pt145 that worked well for about 400 rounds then it started going downhill. I had a judge that had light strike problems and the cylinder would lockup while shooting sometimes and it was picky about what .410 shells I used as some would stick in the chamber. My fiance has a .357/38 Taurus/Rossi snubbie that works well, but the cylinder lockup isn't the tightest. Unfortunately while Taurus has a lifetime warranty, be prepared for a lot of hassle and waiting if you try to use it. In contrast, Keltec and Springfield also have lifetime warranties but have had great customer service when needed.

In an auto probably the PT92. In a revolver, probably the M66 or 85.

Of my experience, the best Taurus I've owned is the PT1911. Although mine had a weak finish on the slide (blued version) I stripped it and cold blued it. Other than that, it's been tight, reliable and a great shooter. It's my favorite pistol right now.

I've owned a few Tauri (?) and have not had a problem out of any of them. My other favorite would have to be the 7.5" Gaucho I owned (SAA clone) in .357. I traded it for something I wanted more at the time, but it was a great cowboy gun with a beautiful finish. They don't make them anymore.

I am the owner of four Taurus revolvers and my favorites are the .357
Magnum Model 66 4" and the .44 Magnum Raging Bull 6". The Model 66 is
a tackdriver on the range and the Raging Bull is built like a tank. I've never
had any problems with any of my Tauri. The PT92 is probably my favorite
of their semiauto models

I have no idea which one is their best product. All I know is the 2 I have work fine.

I am ok with Taurus I used to own a 66 it was a decent revolver
They are average in my view but they do make some ergonomic guns like the 709 slim that was a decent grip.I prefer glock and sig quality semi auto guns and smith and wesson for revolvers.

I think Taurus has had some issues in the past and still put out a lemon from time to time. So there are still bitter people out there that feel all Taurus guns are trash. As you can see here there are plenty of happy Taurus owners. Pick a firearm and you’ll find someone complaining about it.

After what I've been going through with my NEW 941 SS .22 Mag. Revolver, no more Taurus products for me.

I'm at a loss here. My 24/7 Pro PT140, 608, Millenium PT140, Millenium PT111 Ti, are all my favorites depending on what I feel like shooting at the time. More importantly, the one I'm carrying when the need to defend myself is at hand. I kind of like Taurus pistols. And honestly everyone of them has served me flawlessly even after tons of full house hand loads have been put through them. Oh, one exception and I think it was my fault. Both of my PT140s don't have that DA feature working any more without having to move the action a fraction.

I have only owned 2 Taurus handguns. A PT140 Millieum Pro and a PT709 Slim.

My favorite was the PT140, 10+1 rounds of 180 gr JHP goodness in a small fairly light package. Easy to conceal, carried well, decent trigger with 2nd strike capability, and accurate. Still kind of wish I had kept it instead of selling to fund my Springfield XD40SC.

pt92-bought in the late 80's- has about 8,000 rounds thru it, only problem i EVER had was the the barrel lug broke around 7,000-had it replaced and it's still going strong. this one has been a great gun.

I have never had a problem with my PT1911B-1 its been a great firearm
I also have a judge 3 inch magnum thats fun to play with but I would still go with the 1911 as my favorite and the one I would say is Taurus' best

oh and to all the M450 owners Im still jealous

I have a blued 6"bbl half-lug Model 66 .357 manufactured in the mid eighties that I think is a very good revolver. Very smooth and crisp action, acceptable lockup and gap, very accurate, no troubles. I paid $250 in a local pawn shop for it. I like it as well as my Ruger Security Six 6" .357 of similar vintage. No complaints.

I love my PT92 and 99 AF, they are great pistols. I love them so much that I plan to get a PT 99AFS and switch out the barrel for a Beretta 92FS barrel as another THR member has done. The only advantage I see the Beretta having is the Chrome Lined barrel.

The PT92 and 99 are as simple and good as 9mms come. I just like having the adjustable sights on the 99 for 147 grain loads. My PT99 AF helps keeping me from wanting a 1911 in 9mm, I like it too darn much to part with it till like a hotter twin sister, the PT 99 AFS with a Beretta barrel comes along. It is my go to 9mm for my shoulder holster when I don't feel like my Ruger P345 and its 8 rounds of .45 ACP goodness won't do.

Don't own a Taurus and have never fired one. I just got a smart mouth!!!!

I also have a Taurus Tracker .17hmr with the discontinued 8 3/8" barrel. Like others have said...quite the tack driver. Never had a problem with it.

the 24/7 serie and the 800 serie are my favotite.

After fixing a gap issue myself to the gun wouldn't lock up, my 608 8-shot .357 revolver is one HELL of an accurate firearm and has a superb trigger.

It's my most favorite gun at the range to shoot!

pt945..my vote......45 single stack, can go da/sa or c and l....never had any issue w/ ANY Taurus I've owned..and I have had 6..on the other hand, I have had to send my s/w back twice.....

I ordered a new Taurus Tracker last week. 44 mag, stainless, 4" barrel, adjustable sights. I'm hoping it's a great gun. It felt great in my hands, other than the grips being a bit small. I can get a set of Hogue grips to take care of that, fill my hands up. I see that some here love them and some hate them. I suppose it's like everything else. I know people who own Mercedes who have car problems. I bought a Chevy Lumina new 10 years ago and still drive it, not a lick of problems with it. Luck of the draw...

I dunno, probably the PT92 and Raging Bull. I don't hear a lot of complaining from their owners. I personally own a 24/7 OSS, PT145, a Rossi 720 44 special and until recently a Taurus 44 special 6" stainless. I haven't had a problem with any of them, but some have.

Picked up my new Taurus Tracker, 44 mag, on Friday, took it to the range on Saturday, in spite of the bad weather. Couldn't have the gun in the house all weekend without shooting it. First thing I have to say about the gun is, it's pretty...It's also ( by far) the loudest handgun I've ever shot. I always wear good hearing protection but even with that on the noise is very noticeable. The factory grips are good but a bit small for my large hands but I think a pair of Hogue's will take care of that problem. I also took a 22 auto and a Ruger GP 100 in 357 mag with me. I started with the 22 and worked up to 38 then heavy 357 loads. I figured working up to the 357 would help me ease into the recoil I knew was coming with the Tracker. It didn't. I have a Ruger Super Redhawk in 44 mag also but it has an 8" barrel and absorbs most of the recoil. I closed my eyes and pulled the trigger. The recoil came but I still wasn't ready for it. It's the first handgun I've fired that actually hurt to shoot. I loved it! After about 10 rounds I had to put a thicker, padded glove on my right hand to help absorb the blast. After a few rounds of getting used to it I ended up firing 30 shells through it. It's very accurate at 25 yards, once you're not afraid anymore. It really pushes back against you but it does seem like the porting helps in keeping the barrel down since it didn't flip up much, which is what it was designed to do. I'm happy with my purchase. I hear some people say "just get a 44 mag and tone down the reloads." Well, in that case, it's no longer a 44 and you may as well have saved the money and stuck with the 357. I agree it's not a gun you'd shoot woodchucks with all day but it's great for what it was designed for, a short barrelled, light, powerful trail gun. Once you get used to the recoil and all the noise, I think you'll like it, I do...

The one you dont buy! I had 3 that suffered catastrophic failures, so no more for me.

every manufacture has lemons, its not just taurus.

its just people say they have problems and the gun is junk (lower price range guns, not just taurus) but if its a "high quality" gun that has issues then its, "oh it just needs little tuning"

Quick Draw is way too correct to ignore. I own 14 Taurus weapons, some for over 30 years, without a problem.

I've also owned, or own, S&W, Colt, Springfield, Ruger, and a host of both lesser and greater brand firearms. I had a S&W Model 625-3 fail on the first shot. A Sig P229 that cracked it's slide in under 75 rounds. How about an HK USP that would fire 12" groups at 7 yards? Or a Colt Government Model Mk IV, Series 80 that had the rear dovetail milled oversize?

As for rude, when HK sent my USP back, with a new barrel, they didn't install the O-ring. Calling them, and telling them that was met with a stony and arrogant " no gun leaves our shop incomplete" followed by a hang-up.

I love listening to the litany of Kimber owners with their problems, and hearing the advice of "send it back, they'll make it right" ad nauseum.
