Nicely done. That looks like a Yugo bayonet also. They were relatively scarce at one time.

I think your Yugo looks great with the wood. I did the same thing with mine after receiving it with the synthetic guards. Now I would like to get an original grip to replace the finger-groove grip that it's now wearing. I may also have to get one of the proper bayos like you have instead of the Romanian model that mine shipped with.

Looks good. You do realize that by putting Yugo parts back on, that you are taking away some of the 922r required parts, so you will need to replace other parts somewhere on the rifle.

I like the trench carvings on the side. Nice job on the restore. Does that 'M' and 'K' stand for Mikhail Kalashnikov?

I think the synthetic hand-guards look better because they match the pistol grip.

I like the wood but I wouldn't have used the beat up stuff. I would use something new or tactical rails. The gun looks good.

The handguard was a USA item. I think your replacement may affect the legal reqirement of made in USA parts.

Actually It is one thing to be cautious... and another to enter and post before previewing and editing .

The ATF will DNA test the wood for country-of-origin? I dont think so. My Yugo M70AB2 came with original Yugo wood forearm and with a black plastic grip, as did my son's, as did my cousin's M70s, so the 922r compliant parts are obviously elsewhere in the Century Arms International/Dan Coonan Industries CAI/DCI build. They ran out of good wood before they ran out of the other parts.

Can anyone here who bought an imported military gun from a importer/manufacturer actually identify the parts on their gun that are 922r compliant?

My question is: ATF strictly enforces 922r on importer/manufacturer and people who build from parts kits on newly made receivers. Has ATF prosecuted an individual end-user owner for installing replacement parts and missing a compliance total due to after-sale repairs or replacement?

BTW Smitty908, good looking gun. Take the time to learn the sight adjustment, 100yd / 100m accuracy may surprise you. Ours came with a kit including mag pouch, US made magazine, Yugo magazine, oiler, cleaning tools that include sight adjuster, sling, bayonet. (The US made magazine counts as a 922r compliant part for import/sales purposes. Does ATF send agents around checking to see if end users still have their US made magazine?)

And I paracord-wrapped my left strut for my right cheek too (military match season here runs March to September and that steel can be cold in the mornings). Does that paracord wrap count as an additional US made part and will the ATF ever check it?

As far as compliancy goes, I added wood hand guards to my Yugo and it is still compliant. Now, when I change out the pistol grip with an original then I will fall short of US made parts so I'll also replace the flashhider with a Tapco part of the same design.

Well compliant or not, I really like the look of your handguards. Very "battle-worn" looking, like they had gotten into more than a few scrapes somewhere along the way. And you should definitely get a matching wood pistol grip to complete your modifications.

i have a wood pistol grip im not going to use..... dont like it (never installed it)


my m70 has all sorts of "battle worn" scars lol!


IMO i like a regular AK more than a M70- the underfolder is too long IMO.
