I picked up one of the Romanian Draco pistols a few weeks ago. So far I have been very pleased. I got it from Bud's Police supply in Lexington for $369. They had 4 in stock to choose from so I looked them over and happen to find this one. They were all in pretty good shape, with a better fit and finish that the average WASR-10. They are new production built on new receivers and no used parts. Anyway, as I was looking them I noticed that this one's muzzle nut wasn't welded on... So that being one less thing I had to deal with, it went home with me
I soon added a sling attachment point to the rear of the trunnion and a krinkov style muzzle break/flash hider. A few days later I started working on the wood. Both the upper and lower handguards were solid wood. No laminate here. I finished them with a Birchwood Casey stock finishing kit. I gave them a few coats of the walnut stain that came with it, and about 8 coats of Tru-oil with 0000 steel wool polishing between. I think they turned out pretty good. The pictures of course don't do it justice.
I have fired exactly 60 rounds through it, All Wolf FMJ without a single hickup and as accurately as I could be shooting standing with no stock. I had hopes of using a single point sling and put forward pressure on it to steady my aim but I haven't found one that I like yet.
Lastly, I have an underfolder stock on the way and plan on making it an SBR. I have never done anything like that before and the task seems a little daunting... not to mention paying $200 for permission from uncle sam. They are made with an underfolder rear trunnion so all it would take is 3 holes drilled and 2 rivets set to make it happen though.
I guess you could call it a poor man's Krinkov.
So who else has one? Thoughts and opinions?
The wood in this photo is bleached out from my flash, the other pictures are more representative of the actual color.
