I have a 10-8 4" heavy barrel which was in 95% when I bought it. First Smith revolver I ever owned. Liked it so much I got more, including a 1905 4th change and a couple more S&W K's.

I'm looking for more as price allows.

Had a 10-5 pencil barrel 4" that was 98% with only 12 rounds fired in its life but it was sooo nice I couldn't bear to shoot it since its value was its pristine condition so I sold it.

I agree the S&W M&P (Model 10) is just about the most perfect .38 Special revolver ever made.

Here is my 1948 M&P along with it's little brother, the Chief's Special:

Hello friends and neighbors// Just shot these two M&P, pre 10s, Friday. Still puts a smile on my face every time.

They still work as well as any of my newer handguns.
Hard to believe S&W would retire a legend like the model 10, after selling 6,000,000 +.

I feel honored to own/shoot an older one, if 30th year of production counts as "older".

Love the K frames, and the M1905/M&P/Model 10 put the K frame on the map!

Here's that wonderful, pre-Model 10 called the M&P . . . "born" in 1950 and sporting a 5" pencil barrel. It don't git no better n this, a 5-screw, "C" prefix, post war M&P!!!

I've got a pair of Model 10's but both mine have been altered a great deal. Not anything like the fine classics you guys are trotting out.

Not a good pic but it's a 40 year old M10 HB modified to DA mode only. Very slick and smooth action. I used this revolver to set a range record at the police academy way back then.

I've got one or two around here.

Outstanding !! A 5",, that is a rarity indeed and would you look that the dot front sight..!
Is that a Brass Dot Front???? I wonder how the rear blade is shaped.....

And the one marked "Another Early M&P" I have fondled many many Smiths in my day and I do believe that this is the 1st 5 screw K frame, built just like a 44 Triple Lock I have ever layed eyes on..... Way Kool...!!

I'll play.

Hello. Definitely count me in as a stauch supporter of the Model 10.

SWM10snubEagleGrip005.jpg
A square butt snub I bought in near-new condition a few years ago. It is wearing Eagle Secret Service stocks. The hammer spur had been bobbed when I bought this revolver, but if it had not been, I'd probably have done so or replaced it with a bobbed one.

This 4" Model 10 HB was purchased used and also had a bobbed hammer. I replaced the trigger with a smooth one and it is also fitted with Eagle's Secret Service stocks. This one is on constant "house duty" and is one that I sometimes carry (lawfully) concealed. It is loaded with Remington 158-gr. LHP +P.

This round butt Model 10 HB is wearing a pair of grips from Mr. Don Collins. This one is used primarily at the firing range.

This Model 10 HB had been carried quite a bit, but shot very little. Finish was quite worn. I had it reblued and it is like a "new" revolver for me! One similar to this was my first "duty gun" as a beginning police officer in the early 1970's.

Best.

Nice to have you aboard Mr. Camp. BTW is your write ups that got me so interested in the M10 and the .38 SPL when I was looking for a good revolver and cartridge.

Hello and thank you very much. I truly believe that the good old Model 10 can be a really fun shooter at the range, but can be called upon to handle "serious business" if required.

It seems that these days I'm shooting a more varied "diet" of handgun types, but when I get a chance to just shoot my old mainstays, it's almost always the Hi Power, CZ-75 Pre-B, some sort of 1911-pattern pistol, or (and more and more frequently) a Model 10 4" HB.

Best.

Best.

I'm glad that you posted here as I have been wondering if you have tested the Speer 135gr +P loading and the Hornady critical defense ammo from a 4" M10 yet? If so what kind of velocities were attained?

Here's my application: 2 M&P transitional models, the 5" dating to 1945 and the 6" to 1947. The 6" was modified with a Deane W. King "cockeyed" hammer and action job, probably at the time the gun was made or shortly thereafter. I'd love to add a 3" or 4" Model 10 to my collection at some point.

Hello. I shot a few rounds of each from a 4" Model 64, but not many. I cannot find my notes, but if memory serves both were just under 1000 ft/sec or in that neighborhood.

Best.

Thank you.

There are some very nice pics here fellas lets keep this one going. The S&W M&P/M10 is a venerable old work horse that deserves homage. It is a darn shame that S&W is relegating this great revolver to the limited production classic series:(

My wife's dad carried this one in the late 50's when he was with the Bend, Oregon police dept. We inherited it when he died a year ago.
Lockup and trigger are of course amazing! It's one of my favorite handguns.

"pencil barrel..."

Cringe. Bubba terminology. Tapered barrel or standard barrel is correct.

"I own two Model 10s. One is a M&P pre 10..."

Cringe. If it's a Military & Police predating model numbers it's not a Model 10.

Maybe the thread should be titled "Model 10 and earlier M&P appreciation thread."

Lets not get ubber technical here. Aside from a model number and modifications made to the M&P they are really the same, the M&P just got affixed with the model 10 designation is all. So I would like to keep this thread all inclusive.

So how many here actually use they're M10 for more than just casual plinking at the range? and what is your favorite load to shoot? I have a lot of ideas but unfortuneately not enough time. For the most part I use a 158gr SWC over some Unique. I also have some loads made up to test out with W231, and some 148gr DEWC with Unique, but life keeps geeting in the way and keeping me from getting to the range.
