Since the old thread can't be revived as it is 345 days old I'm starting a new one. There must be more M10 aficionados out there. Much to my dismay I heard that S&W is dropping the M10 as a standard catalog item by the end of the year and it will only be produced now in limited runs under the classic series:( Lets go M10 lovers lets keep this one going.

About 25 years ago, Montgomery Wards sold handguns, right next to the ladies cosmetics department, as I recall. I remember really wanting the S&W M10 in .38 SP that they had on display. The lady from the cosmetics department came over and got it out of the display case and let me look at it. It was $185 new.

It would've been my first handgun, but I decided to save 50 bucks and bought a junker instead. I've always regreted that. Had I bought it, I'm sure I'd still have it today.

Today they're between $700-$800. If I find a nice used M10, I'll join your club.

I love my Model 10. 4inch barrel. It was made in 1974 and is marked MPD(Memphis) on the backstrap. I use it for home defense, loaded with Speer Gold Dots 135grain +P. Its very soft-shooting and accurate.

I have two model 10s. One is a M&P pre 10 4 inch barrel and the other is a model 10-14 4 inch heavy model. Any S&W collection is not complete without at least one model 10. They are the classic police carry revolver back in the day.

I'll get a photo up later. I recently picked up my first six-shooter. A 4" 10-5.
The bluing shows that it was stationed in a holster for many years, but it's mechanically perfect. I love this gun.

I'm in, have had my M10 for 5 years now and love the thing. And it has gotten others to love shooting too.

Thanks folks for contributing. I think it is very sad that the only time most folks consider the .38 SPL anymore is for being used in a snubby or to shoot from a .357 at the range. Don't get me wrong the .38 SPL snub is a great platform but a 4" .38 SPL platform has a whole lot more to offer. I use my newer 10-14 whenever I go hunting or woods bumming and never feel the need for more, of course it is always complemented by a long gun. Shortly I hope to start experimenting with some 200gr loads for my M10:cool:

I got 3 M10s that were my late friends guns. he was a local LEO and has since passed away of lung cancer over 25 years ago. 10-9 2 inch,2 m10s,a 10-6 4 inch heavy and a 10-8 also all 3 parkerized. I carry the 2 inch for the past 5 years and 4 speed loaders.

I've got a blued, 4 inch thin barreled S&W model 10, Ser. #19XXX with a #7 underneath that I inherited from my step father in-law several years ago, he was a security guard. I took it to the in-door range and promptly put 6 rounds in the 10 ring in one ragged hole at 50 ft., I knew then and there it was a keeper so I bought a set of Pachmayr grips for it and I take good care of it. I've got a bunch of pictures of it on my other computer and next time I fire it up I'll try to remember to post pictures of it even though they all look alike.

The Model 10 is an almost ideal revolver for so many purposes. I have a pair of 10-5s and a 10-8. They're wonderful handguns.

Any Smith with an "M" attached to it's name is waaaay too modern. Give me a hand ejector 1905 variation 4 instead.

Will this count?

Military and Police Hand Ejector 4th Change, 5 inch barrel, originally in .38 S&W, now .38 Spl, shoots great. I have the original wood grips but don't fit me well, hence the Pachys.

If a Model 10 isn't the perfect 38 revolver, I don't know what is. Everything you need. Nothing you don't.

Very well put. I'm still in disbelief tha S&W is discontinueing the M10 from regular production, after all it is the M10/M&P that really put them on the map. IMHO the M10 can probably fill 98% of most folks needs with aplomb, yet some folks look at like it's a red headed step child  The .38 SPL and the 4" k-frame is more versatile than most give it credit for. BTW those are some looking revolvers guuys lets keep this one going.

I've had a couple of them, and will have more. My most recent is was born in 1930. It's a hard-used service gun with very little finish left on the right side of the frame, lots more on the left. It's at my dad's place doing the same quiet guardian job it's always done.

Have 3 10-5, 10-7 and police trade in 64-5 DAO that rests here by the keyboard. The other 2 are nightstand guns. The most expensive one was $275. I have always felt that the model 10 was one of the best deals out there.
