Thinking about picking up a Leupold FX Scout for my Marlin Guide Gun. Does anyone have any experience with these? Specifically, how hard is it to acquire your target when you bring the gun to your shoulder? I have a 2x7 on the rifle now but I shoot stout loads and have gotten a couple "kisses" from the scope. The gun will be used for hunting in Pa brush for bear and maybe whitetail, although I have several other guns I prefer for deer. Thanks for any and all replies.

I have one--the same Leupold you're considering--on a Marlin 1894 in .41 mag, and it's a great match for a lever-gun for hunting in the brush. Even a better one for your application, because I imagine the recoil on your guide gun is pretty stout, and having the scope out in front of your ejection port will let you remove any worry about how close you get to it.

Target acquisition is very fast and instinctive. And you will certainly get the full practical accuracy potential of your levergun from the moderate magnification of the Leupold. It's clear with a reasonably fine reticule.

I have a Burris 2.75-power Scout Scope on my Sako Scout.

You are asking a training question. If you train to be able to bring it up to your shoulder and do fast target acquisition using both eyes, the scope and rifle will do what you want them to.

Your only concern is getting the proper eye relief, which means it will be mounted on the barrel in front of the receiver. The Scout Scope was designed to be mounted as you see it in my rifle, w/ the rear of the scope in-line with the front of the chamber opening. This allowed the shooter to load rounds into the chamber w/o looking, by indexing on the scope's rear to find the chamber. It should work fine w/ your rifle, also.
