B]Head of ATF Is Likely to Go[/B]

Published June 18, 2011

| The Wall Street Journal

The Justice Department is expected to oust the head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, according to people familiar with the matter, amid a troubled federal antitrafficking operation that has grown into the agency's biggest scandal in nearly two decades.

I guess it's the head of the ATF being the fallguy for the failed for AG Holder for Operations Gunrunner and Fast & Furious.

.

The one I just looked at that further links to the WSJ seems like what the op indicated.

Of course the one they want to replace him with isn't anyone we would like.

THey are trying to build a firewall between the ATF and DOJ. It won't work, I don't think.

This. ^^^^^^^^

Chairman Issa did state however the investigation will be conducted in the right way. He stated that they will start with the field agents and work their way up to AG Holder. I know he meant it, but I hope he has the authority and the balls to do it. We'll see.

Humm...
Justice is playing CYA...

The ATF head could make a nice fall guy, and say tell the truth... like Oliver North
and go down in slight infamy or just play turtle for his bosses

I don't think ol' Chuck Grassley is going to be content with that. I think he will want more, and rightfully so, IMO.

He seems pretty heated about this. I wish more were.

After watching Rep Issa shake his finger at AAG Weich, and say, "We're investigating YOU!", I don't think that move will be the end, not by a long shot. I think this will go farther, but i really don't know how much farther.

If the current head of BATF goes, who will Obama replace him with? Dollar against a doughnut it won't be good for us. Holder is marginally out of control, and Obama may want to use this as an excuse to can him( I doubt it,but can hope). In any case, with the election coming up all bets are off. He may want to give the appearance that he's moved to the "center" and will do ANYTHING to win, no matter who goes under the bus.

I think that pretty much hits the nail on the head...

Wasn't the director of the ATF leaving anyway? I thought the NRA was raising Hell about Obama's nomination of a real anti-gun political goon from Chicago to replace him.

Everything so far is pretty predictable... Very easy to predict the remainder will be over as quickly as possible (for the current administration's benefit) or as long as possible (for the side hoping to gain an electoral advantage...). The only cure I can see is going to be available to us in November, 2012.

2012, it just can't come soon enough....

By the way, towards the end of a career in law enforcement I was the guy in charge on many nights and weekends (only a police lieutenant). Something I considered to be an important part of my job was to occasionally not follow one rule or another or not enforce one law or another if I believed it was important and necessary. Of course it was my job on the line if I was wrong - but everyone under me was protected since I always made it very clear who made that particular decision.... I wonder if there's anyone at the various federal outfits that would do that sort of stuff.

OC, Holder is marginally out of control?????????? Holder knows exactly what he is doing. He will not suffer from this because of the girlie boys in the congress. He is in total control and pursuing strategies exactly as Obama dictates.

If the head of ATF loses his job, you can bet there will be a cushy job for him somewhere. No charges will be filed against him. These people are above the law.

It's a revolving door.
FCC commissioner Meredith Atwell Baker raised a lot of eyebrows when — only months after voting to approve the controversial merger of Comcast and NBC — she announced she would be jumping ship to become Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, NBCUniversal.

What was the big scandal two decades ago?

Ruby Ridge were both originally ATF operations that went bad, then the FBI took the situation over and made it worse.

As I understand it, many in the '90's thought those two operations were going to lead to the ATF being disbanded, but unfortunately that didn't come to pass.

That's not actually a bad choice -- after all, Holder will be gone in a few years, but ATFE staff will be around for a long time.

What they should do is fire the whole chain of command, from the head of ATFE right down to the supervisor in charge.
