Stopped in a shop that sells stripped AR receivers, and just decided to it was time to build my first AR from scratch. I didn't want a plain vanilla .223, but something instead that was deer capable. Since I'm already a fan of Swedish Mausers, I selected the 6.5 Grendel as the caliber of choice. I ordered a 6.5 mm kit from J&T Distributing, and received it in the mail about 10 days later. Took about 2 hours to get the full rifle totally assembled. Then I ordered a Simmon's Whitetail scope to put on top. Here it is!

Didn't get to try it out right away, but finally got out to the range for the initial sight-in. Here's the group I produced on just the first box of ammo. I think I can do even better if I replace the stock trigger with something smoother and lighter. It was pretty heavy and could feel the creep, but managed to make a .795" group even with that. I am very, very happy! Will start developing a handload for it shortly.

Looks good Congrats. How much does a box of 6.5 go for? I'm interested in building something in 6.5 or 6.8.

Very nice. I like J&T. They show up at a few gun shows around here. When they do they have dozens of uppers and hundreds of parts. Their stuff seems great and their rep for quality is growing. They make a lot of Double Star stuff. I may be wrong, but i think they are the same company.

Nice rifle and nice shooting. I recently finished my 6.5g build using a 24" A Arms barrel. Shooting Hornady and Wolf Gold close to the same size groups. I read Wolf is going to offer a steel case 6.5g round that well run about .30 a round in bulk. If that happens I may build a few more in 6.5g.

if you don't mind, what was the approximate cost of the build. i've been thinking about doing one of these also.
