Guns that seem to disappear off the planet...

So you want a Holy Grail, eh?

In the '70's, Interarms got involved with Mauser. Mauser made and Interarms imported, Lugers. Modern manufacture, none of this last-ditch end-of-the-war crap. I was doing the Beer Crawl in Carson City, stopped in to visit my pawnbroker--he's a sponsor--and...

Just lying on the glass case, new in the box was an American Eagle stamped, 6" barrelled, stainless steel Interarms Luger, 9mm parabellum. Like a fool, I didn't put it on layaway right then and there but went home to research it.

Naturally, it was gone the next time I was in there. Seems we have a Luger collector here in town. Gunbroker? Lottsa Luck...

While I certainly appreciate the well-meaning suggestions about the handful of lefthanded .22 bolt rifles still on the planet, my original post which prompted these responses contained an oversight which has led us down the wrong path.
I failed to highlight the word "tubular" magazine.
All the well-meaning replies point out lefthanded .22 rifles featuring box magazines.
Let me emphasize this again: TUBULAR MAGAZINE. :banghead:
There!
Now that we're back on track, I stand by my original statement that lefthanded bolt-action .22 rifles featuring tubular magazines do not exist on the planet, and maybe not even in this galaxy.
If they ever existed, it was before anyone participating on this forum was born. And possibly before their parents were born.

One that I continuously shop for, but seems to be getting more and more rare; the Detonics Scoremaster. I guess I just need to grow some fortitude, cough up the cash, and get one... Cause they ain't getting any cheaper, or more common.

The IVI Timberwolf .44 Mag and .357 Mag pump guns were available for a decade, and no-one cared until they stopped makin' them. Try to find one for sale now!
The Sako Finnwolf lever rifle languished and died. Now try to find one for less than about five times the original price.

After I brought home my $400 SKS - I wish I could find the $300 rifles I saw last year!

mortablunt: I was interested in one of those SVT 38's about a year ago, too. They only made a few and they weren't very reliable. The 7.62 x 54r tended to destroy the rifle.

LeonCarr post# 14,

You're right about the 788's, I got a .223 about 10 years ago for $135.00, most accurate rifle I own! Nothin' shy of $800 will touch this one, sorry.

Mr. 788Ham,

A buddy of mine in the mid 1970s bought a Remington 788 in 6mm, a Weaver 4x scope, Weaver bases and rings, soft case, sling, and a box of Remington Core-Lokt ammunition and got change back from 100 bucks.

That rifle is set up exactly the same way to this day, and shoots three shot groups at 100 yards with factory or handloads that you can cover with a nickel. I saw him shoot one round standing offhand and explode a full Campbell's Tomato Soup Can from 200 yards away.

It is not for sale at any price...I have tried :).

Just my .02,
LeonCarr
