I'm wanting to duracoat the slide of my SIG 226. It's a police trade in (I think) and the slide parkerizing is a bit worn.

I am debating whether to remove the breech block. It would be nice to remove it to really get the slide clean inside and out befor shooting the duracoat. Also, it would be nice to duracoat the block in the recessed areas to afford a bit more weather resistance.

I have not removed a breech block on a SIG before, don't know if it's a can of worms, or there's nuthin to it. Sometimes, if it aint broke............

Any opinions?

Those slides were apparently made two different ways, one was a milled casting from what I have researched and the other is a stamped out thick sheet metal arrangement with parts welded to the U-shaped slide.

I may be off-base on this.

If the part you are referring to is welded into the slide itself, I would say leave it alone.

There appears to be two types of Sig slides.

The one with the separate breech block looks like it's held in by a large roll pin and one small.
I'd check with Sig before I attempted to remove it. Often these types of assemblies are never intended to be disassembled once installed.

Roll pin replacement in a "folded" Sig-Sauer slide is a routine maintenance item.
The usual recommendation is to replace the roll pins with new any time the breechblock is taken out.

The only trick is, the small one inside the large one has to be removed first!

Otherwise, the large one can't compress enough to get it out without possibly doing damage to the slide.

It's the older design with the folded slide and roll pins. Just dont know if it's wortth the wear and tear to remove it and then re-install it.
