I like to get a new camera. but not sure what one.. I have Bushnell. thats about 3 years old. And it takes 4 DD batteries. And when It gets cold.. it wont take a single picture..I watched Deer after Deer walk past eatting,, and still no flash,

I think I like the Cuddeback,,

So im asking whos using what ones.. and do they really work when it gets cold out..?

Thanks for that site,,,
I use new batteries,I set it out.I bait a area to see whats going to my gardens,
And from my garage I can see Doe walking right up to my apples. and NO flash,,
Im talking 40 Degrees,, not -40,, It wasnt a real big ticket price. And I had it for 3 years now,I neevr used it when its in the summer,, so maybe its a summer trail cam..

thanks for the web site, Im looking at it now,,

I have one of the Primos Truth Cam 46 similar to the last post and like it, but it's heavy and uses big D cells. I have two of the Bushnell trophy cams and LOVE them! Small enough to fit in your pocket, batteries last forever, and my newest one has Field Scan mode for time lapse video over an area. $145 delivered on eBay.

I hate my TruthCam 35

I have a Primos TruthCam 35, and I have not had good luck with it!

I think what happens is that the batteries get low and it writes an incomplete file to the memory card, after which it won't do anything. And the batteries just don't last. I have yet to have it run for two weeks without dying. I have tried using an external battery, but even then it quits in less than two weeks. Sometimes it has only operated for 2-3 days before it quit.

There have been occasions when I've had it take hundreds of pictures the first several days without a problem, so it can take a lot of photos. It just can't seem to run for more than about ten days at the most before it dies. To be fair, the heat during the past summer here in Texas was pretty severe, and that may have contributed to the camera's poor performance.

Basically I now use it only for short-term observation, like when I see hog wallowing and I know I can return to check it in less than one week. If I don't think I can get back in less than two weeks I don't even bother to set it out.

It eats batteries, so I now use only NiMH rechargeable. That helps the battery budget, but not performance because they start at a lower voltage than Alkaline batteries.

If/when I get another game camera, it will not be a Primos.

a6934d20-96d8-6b3f.jpg You must have gotten a bunk one or I got the only good one. Thru well over 3000 pictures over a span of three weeks, my batteries are showing 70% and I have yet to change them.

Waste not want not. :)

Mine is a old bushnell trail scout pro. it does the I.R. pictures if yu remember to add . a special lens, and short videos.. it only has a 2.1 megapix, if it does manage to take a pic of a deer 20 yards away, you can make out its a deer of some sort,,,Its heavy and it uses 4 d cells, I tried seting it up in late summer, with a pile of apples.... next day i go out. apples are gone.. and not one picture,,,POS.lol..and when I put the SD card in my computer, Kodak comes up... SO I take it Kodak made this,,,

Here in PA, we dont have Pigs, to set up for them, unless I go down to a local farmer,,Now they have alpaca farms,,lol...

So Im reading what I can on a new trail cam,, I understand the cold kills batteries. but I cant get 2 nights out of a set of 4 batteries...when it goes to 32 or abouts,, I might go with the Cudde back,, I ike them small bushnells..Every one ha them on sale.. Bass pro has a bunch on sale.

Went to the cam today and batteries are at 60%... Here is a pretty pic of some wild turkey and a heifer

Batteries in my Remington branded camera are a month old and still going, full bars, but soon should weaken. It has all the features and cost about a C note. I'm pretty happy with it, much better camera than my SIL's Moultry brand. It really don't get that cold down here, though. Hasn't froze, yet, but we're supposed to get down NEAR freezing with the front coming in today. We'll see. I figure it will since my squash is kickin' butt.

I went to the http://www.trailcampro.com/ site and read what they had to say and what they tested in warm and cold.it looks like the Bushnell.came out really high, for the money,
I know the last time i used my old... very old and big Bushnell.it only took 3 pics of the woods..no deer just the woods.. and my pile of apples were gone,,
And its only a 2 meg, pictures, so even in nice clear days. its hard to make out wht sex the Deer is,,But these trail cams came a long ways, But I do know the cold kills batteries,, but to only last one cold night or maybe 2. gets a little costly at 4 D cells a clip..and cold here im talking maybe 35,,not 35 below...

Thats cool.. a cow that heards turkey... now thats something you dont see everyday,,,

Nice clear shot.

Cows and Turkeys get along, so does small bears and raccoons. Also A few more pictures of a different bear. Also got a picture of a small eight point.

I believe the brand is Moultrie

Google "Moultrie Game Spy® M-80 Game Camera." That should get you where you need to be ;)

Best of Luck

M-80 Moultrie is what mine is. It holds 8 AA Batteries and they have lasted a good while, better than the cheap Wildview 5R that holds 4 C batteries. I also had a newer 5R Wildview that tore up and I sent it back since it was within the 1 year warranty period. They said they would send me a new one to replace it, but I have yet to see it.

I also have one of the Bushnell Trophy Cams at the deer lease that takes pretty good pictures and the batteries last a good while with it.

Also had a picture of the Coyote above the house.

Whats the coldest temp. have you used your cams in.? Here in PA right now. its down to 35 degrees, And I didnt even set mine up this winter, All my old bushnell does when its this cold. is kill batteries...I like what I read on the new bushnell trail cams.

Cold weather is tough on batteries. As you can see by the picture below my moultrie was still able to do ok at 18 degrees. I have not been around the Bushnell much during cold weather, since I bought it back in September of this year. Right now it is 246 miles away from home and I will not get to check those pictures til I go back hunting in a week or so.

280shooter,

So far this year the coldest temps I have seen have been 25 degrees. It seemed to work just fine.

788 Ham,

The hogs here are like clock work... Every evening no matter what blind I am in they will show up between 5:46m and 5:54pm. A few weekends ago I shot 3 in one evening, my grandfather and uncle each shot 1. Luckily, there is a great processor near by they will make whole hog breakfast sausage for $80 regardless of pig size.

The 80-120lbs hogs taste great.

I need to readjust this camera so the flash is pointed up towards the feeder, but look closely and you will see "Boss Hogg." The feeder is 5ft tall and 5 ft across at the base for a size reference.
