What brands do you like or have used and didn't like?
Digital or 35mm, price?
I bought a Stealth Cam 35mm at wal mart and on the third exchange I got my money back. Film would not advance or rewind when it was supposed to, but for $60.00, I know some people that have had good luck with them.
Now I have a Leaf River 35mm I got on ebay for $84.00, it's seems to work fine, I'll get the prints back tomorrow and see how it did.
You have any Trail Cam pics to share here?
Yeah, I know, we all want a Cuddeback Digital

Got one of the 35mm ones from Sportsman's Guide. Got lots of grreat pix of trees and brush...only a few of deer out of 3 rolls of film. They gave me a return for full price (and paid return postage)

I have a Game-Vu that has a digital camera. I bought it used, and it works great. I liked the idea of not having to deal with the extra expense and hassle of developing film. This one is black and white, but takes pics without using a "flash". We have had quite a few issues with poachers/trespassers/people dumping debris etc, so that was another reason I went with this model, as the flash would not give the camera location away.

Bean, The Game Vu is the ticket for catching people without thier knowing about it, I hope you get 'em good.
My son came home a few weeks back and said,"Where's the gates"?
Yep, someone stole both our 12' gates for Christs sake!
I'll have my welder buddy fix the next ones to be a little harder to steal. :cuss:

Augie, best of luck in catching the creeps!!!!
We had a fence up in one spot and it was destroyed by whoever decided they wanted to drive back in the land and dump their old kitchen appliances and other garbage in the creek. Have found a number of deer just shot and left lay (two nice bucks) some well out of any season...also have had deer stands stolen or damaged :fire: Reports made to law enforcement on the incidents....but the occurences just continue. With lots of luck I might get a license # to help catch some of em before they might find the camera and steal it too. Pretty sad.

On a much better note, some good pics you have there!!! :)

WOW Augie it looks like you have a real pig problem on your land. Maybe we should have a THR group pig hunt and help you with the problem. :D

Augie,

I started with a Non-Typical DC 100 which performed flawlessly for the last three years and took some excellent photos. That being said, I would not recommend it to anyone because it is a film based camera. I recently purchased a Leaf River digital unit and have not used the film camera since. When you factor in the cost of purchasing and developing film together with the cost of the camera battery, you quickly surpass the price of a digital unit in a very short period of time. Plus, the digital unit stays in the woods a lot longer before the units batteries need to be replaced. Digital is definitely the way to go. IMHO.

Augie, best of luck in catching the creeps!!!!

Bean, I never even reported it, why bother? My insurance is $500.00 deductable and the gates are $78.00 each.
Still it ticks me off though.
Sounds like you're having a lot of trouble up there, and why the heck would someone shoot a deer, or any animal, and just let it lay. That's truly a sorry someone. Someone poaching due to poverty and needing the meat I can understand them trying to get away with it, but not just shoot it and let it rot.
I hope the Game Vu helps you catch them.

Sturmruger, Ain't no hunting to it, just bring corn
We are lucky to have found this property when we did, my wife and I both grew up in Orlando area and we were ready to move to the woods and seldom come out. It's only 50 acres ,but it's surrounded by tree farms and hunt leases.
That's why I love those game trail cams, you can get some nice close ups and get an idea when the fawns are dropping, when they go in velvet, etc.

Cindog, I agree digital is the way to go, especially with the cost of film and developing.
I'm keeping my eye on ebay and maybe I can find a good deal on one.

Here's one more shot I took from the porch yesterday...

Beard- What model did you get? How's the picture quality? I'm looking to get a digital too, but can't decide what kind and where to get it.

Thanks

Around here, it seems most of the game cameras are sold and used for taking pictures of the Game Warden!

It's gotten rather old, but when I visit Wal-Mart or the gun stores, the salesmen always have to tell about the people who came in to thank them for selling them the camera, which has paid for itself, as it saved them $388 ($250 fine plus $138 court costs), which is the penalty for "Hunting by aid of Bait".

How does a picture of the game warden beat a ticket? I must be missing somthing.

They get a picture of the game warden finding their illegal bait pile, and know not to hunt the area or they'll get arrested.
