Do you prefer a fixed or collapsible stock on your AR? I prefer a fixed stock, I find them more stable and better for scoped work and when shooting from a bipod/rest. Since that is what I do with my AR (target shooting) I prefer fixed stocks, but even on my SHTF build I have a fixed stock because it improves stability and offers more storage space.

What are your thoughts? Fixed or Collapsible?

It's a good thing that I like A2-length stocks, since I live in Connecticut. My current carbine has an ACE stock on it, which gives it a compact feel.

It is handy to be able to adjust the stock when wearing IBA, but that hasn't been an issue for me since I transferred out of the Army Guard.

It depends on intended use, and user preference. Plus there are new generation adjustable stocks like the MagPul UBR that offer fixed stock stability, and near fixed stock weight to balance against longer barrels.

Depends on use. I prefer fixed for hunting and target shooting (consistency), but collapsible is good for moving a lot and getting in-and-out of vehicles (weight/maneuverability), which I never do with a rifle on me, so I prefer fixed. Plus I think it looks better.

get the collapsible because the assault weapons ban will be back. Maybe sooner than you know.

depends on the use

I have a full size PRS on my 308 that just get used on the bench since the stock is rock steady

and collapsable on my 223 since it isn't used to shoot at long range targets

^^This.

Purpose is extremely important for me. My AR is a dedicated bench praire dog/varmint rig. I cannot afford any slop in the stock when shooting at 400 yards+ with the thing using high scope magnification. For years, the lone answer was a fixed stock. I only very recently (like 2 days ago) switch from my long-standing A2-style stock to a collapsible because for the longest time, the stability of the callapsibles flatout sucked. With the advent of he Magpul CTR, I finally found a collapsible stock that not only is evenly sloped for use with a rear rest bag, it has the release lever mounted INSIDE of the stock frame (so that I can make easy elevation adjustments without snagging on the sandbag) and has a friction lock to take out any and all slop. Again, if the stock meets the purpose, it's what I will use.

Went with Collapsible on purchase of M16 year ago. Now i woudl go fixed. How about the folding stock on the Ruger MIni-14 or M1 carbine paratrooper stock.

Depends on the use...

For our (both mine & my wife's) 6.8s, we use collapsible. We have a wide range of temps here during hunting season, so being able to adjust the stock depending on how much clothing you have on is a plus.

For a gun that's nothing but a plinker/range toy, it doesn't really matter. It's up to each users preference, but I still like a collapsible.

For a precision AR, I like a fixed. My next build will be a rifle length system with a PRS stock. This will also be my platform for working with wildcats. I'm trying to get my hands on a 7mm ARk barrel. I might also try a .25-223 or a 6mm wildcat. I'm also going to be building either a .30HRT or a 7.62x40, and all testing will be done with the fixed stock regardless of barrel length (though most will be 18-20in).

I have and use both, I prefer fixed to shoot with. Cheap, right for me (shooting) and don't wobble. 3 out of 3 is something I can't get from others.

I would only opt for a fixed stock on a dedicated long range comp rifle.

When I was in the Army and had to wear a flak jacket I wanted a collapsable stock in the worst way, but couldn't get one. As a sweatshirt wearing civilian now I definitely prefer a fixed stock. I like both the A1 and A2 stocks.

It depends on what you are doing with the weapon. I have seven different stocks from pistol tube to PRS. The only truly fixed stocks I have is an A1 and Ace ultra light. I guess my favorite would be the UBR or Vltor A5.
