If S&W can make a $600 revolver that shoots 45 LC, 45 ACP and .410 shot shells, why not make a $600 revolver that shoots just 45 LC and ACP?

You know, with a shorter cylinder, maybe a slightly longer barrel (3" or so). Call it The Mayor, or whatever. I'd want at least one of those.

If anyone else is interested, send them a message too. The more they hear it the more likely they are to act on it... probably.

Mostly, what I'd like to know is what you think the chances are of this being produced.

Thanks

They would be the stuff here in Kalifornistan. The .45/.410 revolvers are illegal here.

A 4" .45 convertable that didn't cost $1K+ would be attractive to me.

I have never shot acp in mine just 410 and long but wonder if you had just a colt 45 and changed the ejector if you could shoot acp? Just a thought.

I have not heard of this combination being discussed for the near future.

Thank you for your insight, when given a chance I will pass on.

Not very hopeful, but the seed has been planted

One can hope, one can hope. I do really want to add a .45 colt to the stable, but just do not really like shooting single actions. I want options dagnabbit. Plus here in Cali those uber deadly ultra assault weapon .410 revolvers are banned.

I'd like a .45 ACP 5 shot snubbie, with a frame and cylinder length to match the round.

I can dream, can't I?

Keep in mind that the N-frame 325NG already exists - in a 2.75" barrel .45 ACP x6. It is an Al/Sc frame, black SS barrel & cylinder, tritium Night Sight front/fixed rear sight revolver - a la the Governor. The larger frame opening and cylinder of the Governor makes it 7/8" longer and 1.5 oz heavier than the 325 Night Guard - which is also more than $360 more expensive, MSRP, than the Governor! Converting the 325 Night Guard to .45 Colt would involve a new cylinder and a shorter fc on the barrel - expensive conversion on an already expensive revolver. You could do as I do - accept the Governor's .410 ability as the novelty it is - and load it with .45 Colts and ACP's. I can accept it's slight extra length and mass!

Just take any existing Taurus or S&W .45 colt revolver and have the cylinder face machined to take moon clips. Then you can do both.... Costs about $80.

I don't think Taurus makes a .45 colt only double action. Ideally, I would get a super redhawk, but I think the OP's point was how much more affordable the judge/governor style handguns are so why cant they just do a .45. My biggie is I live in Cali, so I cant just live with the long cylinder (I gladly would).

Who says they have to be single actions? ;)

Won't shoot 45 ACP though. And cost a bit more than $600.00, so you're still onto something.

It doesn't cost just $80 though. First you have to buy the .45 revolver. Since I won't be buying a Taurus, a new S&W .45 Colt is going to cost about $800 or more. Meanwhile, the Governor is going for under $600 online. The only difference the Governor has going for it is that it entered the market after the Judge. I think that's what drove the price down. All I want is one with a standard cylinder. Is that too much to ask? Apparently, to S&W, it is.

You don't have to buy new to get a .45 Colt revolver. Taurus made the 450 in a snubby. Plenty of used Smith's around for under $600.

S&W isn't going to change the design or offer an alternative cylinder based on only a few requests. Supply and demand rules the decision chain. No gun manufacture is interested in saving you a few bucks if it will cost them more than they get in return. Basically you are talking about a one off design and something that is already being offered by many custom revolver smiths. You have to pay to play.

So you're telling me that customer suggestions are stupid, and I should just buy a used gun for more money than the new one I'm suggesting could cost, then turn around and have to send it out to get the gun I really want.

In that case, I apologize for wasting your time with this post. Let's never talk about potential new products again.

Take it easy tiger. Didn't say you couldn't or shouldn't make product requests. Just saying that it would need to be an overwhelming demand for such a product for S&W to add it to their catalog. I simply suggested a quicker route to achieve your stated goal. No need to get mad for the suggestion or get mad at Smith if they ignore or deny your request.

If you really want to make it happen - start an online petition form and gather 10,000 sig's and then you have a real chance of it happening.
