OK. My wife has given me money for my birthday to buy the Ruger Gunsite Scout. The only problem is that I can't find it anywhere!! Some LGS had them but I wasn't ready to commit. I have checked some online gunstores but many are out of stock. The online store prices range from $729 to $850. CAn any of your folks direct me to where I might be able ti find this gun?

Thanks.

Thanks for your advices. Including gallery of guns, I have placed email notices on availability of the RGS on a number of other websites.

My general understanding is that Ruger is considerably backlogged with gun orders (rise in purchases likely due to reelection fears) so many of their products are hard to come by.

One reason it is harder to find right now is the ruger dealer programs.
In Jan. every year Ruger runs different programs and one was a program on most bolt action rifles like if you buy 5 you get a free american series hunting rifle. I know a bunch of folks just jumped on the program and wanted 5 gunsite rifles.

Now alot of dealers jumped all over the programs which helped cause Ruger to stop taking orders as per the statement we have over 1 millions firearms on order in the first quarter of the year.
Normaly they will fill all of the orders by the end of may as per their part of the program as all orders where needed to be placed by the end of feb.

They had way over double their normal sign ups on these programs.

So the dealers who took part in this program are getting the guns in slowly and the ones who did not are going to be out of luck until at least june.

I predict they may not be able to fill all the orders by then which may even cause them to extend the time to get them to the dealers to fill the orders.

So the big hits came with the gunsite and really even more the lc9 and sr22 pistols.

They will be around but you just need to keep looking and my advice is to hit all of the shops and just put in a request.

unless you just got to have one, I dont see a real practical use for this rifle, at least not for me.

Really? You came here and posted, just to take dump on the birthday present from his wife that he has already decided on?

OP-I would go to a couple LGSs and ask about special orders too. Sometimes they're just a coule days away.

Thanks folks. Though I want this gun...NOW, I will have to wait for the best deal. I have been monitoring gunbroker and gunsamerica daily. I am seeing one in Maine Tactical for $799. I will also check the LGS regularly. I just want this before deer season.:)

And worth the wait it will be. This will give you some time to contact Leupold's custom shop to order the variable power EIR Scout Scope. Once you have used this rifle for a bit, you will be very pleased. It will start to smooth up nicely after the first five hundred rounds. Get the polymer mags too. If you must have steel mags, Alpha makes a really good one that is a good bit shorter than the factory version.

Not for you. I have a Ruger Frontier, which is quite similar. It's a very handy rifle, and I don't see a practical reason for you to be against it.

Have you ever shot a rifle with a forward mounted optic?

I have the Hi-Lux 2-7 IER scope on my Ruger Scout, mounted with Weaver Grand Slam medium QD rings. The scope was $110 thru Midway, the rings $25 thru Amazon. This is a good scope for the value and well worth the money. The principal cause of roughness in operating the bolt came from the ejector, which slides in a slot in the bottom of the bolt. Smooth that out and it is quite slick. The recoil is surprisingly soft due to the weight of the barrel and stock. I really like mine. Just got in 1K of M80 pulled bullets from Pats, and am getting 8lbs of WC846 which will provide 1400 reloads. Fun!

I'm a fan of Leupold for my GSR, and it has worked very well for a variety of game. I also use the QD rings and a good sling by The Wilderness. The action has smoothed up to be very slick, and the factory trigger has been very good from day one. That huge extractor gets a sure bite on the case, and ejection is like the rest of the rifle, very robust. You will find it to be very handy when getting out of vehicles, out of a horse scabbard, or in through doorways. From a bench, using a bipod, I have had many sub 1" groups at 100 yards using Remington Core-Lokt 150 grain bullets and stick powders like IMR-4895.

Hey BP,
Have you been to any gun shows lately? Here in East Texas we have a show somewhere every couple of weeks or so. There is always 3 or 4 scouts at these shows, even some lefty models. I hope you find one and enjoy it. Let us know how you like it and send us some pics. Happy Birthday.

Not to highjack the thread, but I bought one before I left for work...ran it with the fantastic iron sites it has, and loved it. Bought a Burris Scout Scope online while at work, but can't remember if it the GSR comes with rings for the forward mount. Do I need to order rings?
