I was bought this gun by my mother for my birthday recently and I have a few questions about the gun. My first one is how well does this gun hold up to the Glock when it comes to putting 1000's of rounds through it. If there has been any problems or malfunctions please chime in and let me know what they were or what is usually the most common pieces that have to be fixed. Another question I have is about the upgrades for the gun. This could include sights, holsters, spring upgrades, trigger upgrade, etc. I will be posting a picture soon of the gun. It is an older model I'm pretty sure because it will still fire without the clip in the gun and it doesn't have the same break down switches on it. That might make a difference on the upgrades that could be placed on the gun as well.

Thanks for all the help!

Hug your mother. Great gun it will hold up just as good if not better than the rest. As far as the magazine disconnect. Makes no difference. The guns are offered both ways.

The S&W M&P will otlast you. It's a great gun. I shoot Glock's in certain matches but prefer both the ergonomics and trigger of the S&W M&P. I shoot mine stock and have had more than 5000 runds through it.

I'm not sure the take down lever has changed over the years with the M&P. Are you sure it is an M&P?

That's what I'm trying to make sure of. I might have a different gun. I haven't been able to see it yet besides this picture so I don't fully know myself. I just know what I've been told.

Here is the picture: if it uploads this time

It is not an M&P, it is a Sigma. The design is very similar to the Glock. Lawsuit similar actually.

They are S&W's earliest foray into the polymer gun field. They are inexpensive, generally pretty reliable, and are known for a heavy, rough trigger. The Sigma doesn't have the "cool factor" of the M&P, but it should serve you well.

I figured it out. It's not an M&P it's a Model SW9VE Pistol by Smith and Wesson. So now is this gun a good gun? I don't know much about it so any input would be great. What is it capable of shooting (accuracy wise), reliability (or issues with the gun), and any of the previous questions I asked originally about the M&P line (upgrade etc.)

VE models are the "newer" versions. They've been in production for several years. I don't remember what problem the VE versions corrected, but it shouldn't matter since you have the VE version.

Sigma is the common term if you are doing a search for information. There are many posts on various forums about the trigger and trigger fixes. Guys that have no other hand gun experience or those coming from non-custom double action revolvers probably don't have any problem with the Sigma trigger.

I think I'd just shoot the thing and see if you like it. There is probably nothing you really need to do to it. Buy some more magazines and ammo and shoot away.

Holsters aren't as available as for the Glock or M&P, but the Sigma has been around for many years and there should be plenty of holsters available.

I always think kydex is a perfect match for polymer pistols as they are both lightweight and relatively impervious to the elements. Raven Concealment Phantom is an excellent option since you can wear the one holster either Inside the Waistband (IWB) or Outside the Waistband (OWB) just by changing out the attachments. You can also change the ride height and cant just by moving the attachments. It is a very versatile holster and a good one to get for those new to carrying since it lets you try out different carry options with just the expense of one holster and a couple of attachments.

I have both a 9mm Sigma and an M&P 40 Compact. Both are well built, reliable pistols although I prefer the M&P. My biggest issue with the Sigma is the trigger, which has a very long pull, more like that of a double action revolver. But since I own several double action revolvers, it's not that big of a deal. I just have to remember which one I'm shooting at any one time. If you shoot a Model 10 or 15 revolver and then fire a Sigma it's an easy transition. If you fire an M&P and then shift to a Sigma, it's a bit of a shock! A Sigma is a good gun, as long as you realize where it fits in the big picture of the gun world.

okay well this is an update to the sigma pistol I got a week back. I have shot about 100 rounds through it and I find it awful so far. I'm not quick to judge a gun so i will keep working with it to come to a final conclusion about. The trigger was different but it wasn't that gritty to me. So I took it apart, cleaned it and look at the parts that needed to be grinded down. After inspecting them I found that they were already grinded down by the previous owner and the springs had been tampered with. I looked online and there was suppose to be two springs, an inner and outer spring, but instead there was only one and it didn't seem to fit quite right itself. I took a coil off of the spring and it fit pretty well. The trigger seemed to lighten up a bit but then comes my other problem. The accuracy was horrible for me. I am not a big pistol shooter so experience I will admit I lack but when shooting my Beretta Pistol even on double action a couple times I was much more accurate than the Sigma. I even stood at 10-15 yards from a 2 liter with water and I couldn't hit it until like shot 6. I don't know if it's just me, the gun (probably a combination of the both) but it just doesn't work. I even took a paper targer and shot at 15 yards away at it with two magazine. I focused hard on slow nice trigger pulls, no flinching etc and the shots were still everywhere!! I'm going to check out some other ammo as well. I shot 115 grain (forgot the brand at this moment). I don't know if that would really be a problem though with it though.. Any advice on this especially with mechanical work that could be done to the gun or what parts should I inspect that could point out a problem here? I'm going to take it soon to a gunsmith to look at it for me to see if there is any damage or problems with the gun.
