Upgrade to a Glock?

I think ilovemyglock likes his pistola. Whadda you think. Hmmmm......:)

1911's ROCK, unlike a glock. :neener: Couldn't resist.:)

fix the sigma trigger. removal of the "extra" 2nd spring on the trigger group will knock a few lbs off the pull. there are a few online directions on how to. The forum I posted my direction on is down right now or I would post you a link.
My sigma has been well beaten and will still shoot more accurately than I can

Get What ever type of firearm you are comfortable with.

If you are comfortable with glocks and like them better than the sigma, then I would say get one. I own a few glocks, and there is nothing wrong with them. Get what works best for you, after all your the one who will be useing it.

Glocks just work , simple to clean , easy to shoot (pull the trigger), no extra bells & whistles . Try explaining to a coworker what a "decocker" is on his first pistol . If you don't like um , buy what ya like .

Glocks are the Toyota Corolla of the handgun world -- inexpensive, simple, ugly, utilitarian, and reliable tools that run forever with only a minimal amount of maintenance. I would consider going from a Sigma to a Glock to be maybe 25% upgrade and 75% lateral move. If that's what you're looking for, go for it.

But if you really want to upgrade you should look at Sig's, HK's, Browning's, Beretta's, CZ's, 1911's. Even the new SW M&P has gotten good comments from a lot of people. If I were looking to upgrade from a Sigma, there are lots of other guns that I would put ahead of Glock as my choice.

1000% with skywarp.

My Sigma was by far the worst handgun I have ever owned. Good luck getting more than $200 for it.

I upgraded to a Glock, but then I graduated to a Kimber.

GET WHAT WORKS FOR YOU.

And I must respectfully disagree with the poster above, former marine or not, who recommended you manipulate your trigger springs to get a better trigger pull. Modification of a trigger deliberately designed for 'safety', ESPECIALLY by a non-professional, can ONLY mean trouble. (Imagine explaining that move under cross-examination.)

Another thing to keep in mind is the fit of the gun to your hand. Fondle a few glocks and make sure they fit you.

The great things about glocks is for everyone but ipsc and idpa style shooters they do not need to be tuned. No ramp jobs to feed big hollow points, no ramp jobs to get it to feed anything, and no real trigger work is common.

Ohhh and they just work. Almost always. People make conscious efforts to get them to not work and they keep on going like a tank.

It's what's great about them.

Exactly, Get the gun you really want.. the 1911's got all kinds of crap in its innards!! LOL!! A Glock is a AK-47 in pistol form,Always functions, and no complicated stuff. A no frills,no holds barred WEAPON !:neener:

How about a M&P? It has a trigger mechanism similar in appearance to the Sigma's but is nowhere near an eight-pound pull, or at least doesn't feel like it. I bought a M&P 9mm compact yesterday, shot it today, and it functioned 100%. I like to characterize it as a "better-feeling Glock";) and I have had a Glock 19 for over seven years.

Some do, but the MIM parts are easily replaced. Can you guys detail strip your Glocks with nothing but a case and the parts of the gun? No? Why not? I can do it with my 1911. :neener:

All good humored banter aside - get what fits you. Glocks are great pistols, the 1911 just fits me really, really well. Get a caliber you're comfortable with. 9mm is easy to shoot and cheap to practice with. 45 ACP is easy to shoot (to me), and it's not that expensive to buy (when I get behind on my handloading). Once you find what fits you in a caliber you like practice with it until it's like an extension of your hand.

Go for it, the Glock 17 is a great gun.

It is one of the most reliable guns out there and after all THE Glock to own.:D

if you think it is time to upgrade, then it i probally time, the glock handguns are sweet, great firearms but don't limit yourself to one brand checkout the various makes and models, there are many out there that beat out the sigma, in many ways, and will serve you a lifetime ie xd's that is my choice but I ain't trying to force one on you though. many great choices out there. go to a store with a great selection and handle them all and get what fits you best ad will acomplish all the things that you want it to.

Agreed with the others. With all the new and more innovative choices in durable autos out there from HK, Springfield, CZ and Taurus (among others), I'm not sure I'd called a Glock an "upgrade", being that they haven't had any major innovations or even reduction in slide chunkiness in what....ten years, now?

Kinda like upgrading from a Buick to a Ford Taurus, IMO. There's lots sexier cars on the road now.

If ya like the Glock

get it. It is an upgrade, and will last a lifetime.

You sound like a smart guy! I had the Sigma series as well in a .40 s&w ve and i did not like the trigger. So i traded it in for an o.d. green Glock 22 in a .40 s&w and i have loved it. Over a 100,000 round's through it and not a problem. I have never heard anyone say that about there recomendation's. Go with what you are use to. The Sigma is alot like the Glock. S&W even got sued by Glock for the design and won. I think the Glock is great choice for someone who like's to shoot alot like me.

Sigmas are great guns, the only upgrade your getting is the lighter trigger. Everything else is the same.

Go GLOCK......

If your planning to use the gun for a range gun only consider the Glock 34. It has the extended barrel for target shooting (IIRC 5.45"). It also comes stock with the 3.5lb trigger bar and the extended slide release. I bought the .40 caliber version (G35) and LOVE it. It shoots much more smoothly compared to my standard size G22 .40 caliber. Either way the G17 is a fantastic weapon. It is the cornerstone of all Glocks after all! The glock will last forever with minimal care. Parts are also cheap and can be found just about anywhere short of Wal-Mart!!!!

I couldnt find the original AR15forum thread but here is a repost of one guys glock torture test.

I'm with SouthpawShootr,

I LOVE my Sigma in 10mm Jr.

I have no problems with the trigger, and I bought it brand spankin' new for $269 about 5 years ago. I have no idea how many rounds I have through it, but I do have a MIlt Sparks VM-2 holster for it.

While the Springfield XD seems to be softly calling to me, I won't make the mistake of letting go of my Sigma.
