picking new scope

that is the main problem i have, no one within 75-100 miles carry either brand, and as i can see most are overpriced at that.

Check out Liberty Optics. Guy who runs it, Scott, is a real decent guy. My PST was on back-order for a couple months, and he never failed to return my calls, even if he had nothing new to tell me.

Mention you're on THR and you'll get a discount. No additional tax and free shipping when i got mine. The price i was quoted was the price i was charged, period. And saved over $200 over buying locally...although my scope was a bit more than what you're looking for.

Just got back from scope shopping, I wanted a new Redfield, it was nice but did not thrill me, then I decided to get a Vortex but they could not make it fit my Savage, I finnaly ended up buying a Leupold VX-II and I really like that scope, I have never seen so much eye relief range keeping full light in the scope, and the light transition is as good as any of my Nikons.

They couldn't make it fit?

That sounds odd... was the bell contacting the barrel or bolt handle contacting the eyepiece when manipulated? Because those problems are easily solved with slightly higher rings. If the bases on the receiver were too widely spaced to allow the scope to mount, a set of extension rings easily solves that, or the use of a one piece picatinny rail. Those are the only issues typically encountered when mounting scopes, and they're easy fixes if the guy behind the counter knows what he's doing.

They needed a special one piece base to accommodate the length of the Savage action and that special base was one piece with the rings so they had no way to move it up, and the zoom adjustment was dragging bottom. It's all good though I love my new VX-II

personally, I like leupold, redfield, and nikko sterling. However, You can't go wrong with zeiss. That said, I would probably go with a leupold vx3 lr reticle or vxr

well thanks everyone for the comments, i went ahead and pulled the trigger on the viper, figured the only negative i could find on basically the whole scope was the small eye box. so if it goes to worse case, my girlfriends .243 will have a very good scope on it and ill have to try another one for the 270wsm.

thanks

i wouldn't let a gun shop's poor selection of scope mounting hardware keep me from getting the scope i wanted.
Oh I love the VX-II I just wanted a Vortex but since it won't fit that rifle I am going to try one on my next rifle, probably a T/C Venture, Browning X-bolt or another Tikka
