Oh, good. Not only anti-gun, but sarcastic...

...about it.

Stopped at a local Toys-R-Us and was reminded that they give money to gun control groups when I saw the store posted "No Guns." This makes two places in AR I've seen with such signs (Fed-Ex being the other).

So, I emailed the customer service line and told them I could not shop their store because of their policy. I also asked if the sign works in keeping criminals out.

I got a response telling me that no guns is their policy and thanking me for observing it. She did not answer my question regarding criminals observing the signs.

So I replied it was my pleasure taking my business elsewhere. Go ahead and get snarky with me, lady... amateur.

Maybe it's me, but I don't see any snarkiness? They are free to post no guns, and you are free to shop elsewhere. Seems pretty cut and dry?

+1, we don't win any one over to our side by that type of rhetoric. I didn't see anything but a polite and respectful response. Nothing sarcastic at all.

On a sidenote, if they ever join up with Walmart, the resulting store would be Walrus.

I agree with you - I wouldn't shop at a place that bans guns. Why put myself at a tactical disadvantage so I can give them money, when I can do the same thing free of said vulnerability at another location?

I agree about taking your money elsewhere, but did not see any snarkiness. Keep in mind that the lady on the other end of the email is likely a very underpaid rep who deals with complaints all day. Her answer was cut and dry and professional. It is highly unlikely the
Actual person on the other end of the email has a strong personal opinion one way or the other when it comes to guns. She is just trying to make a living

Also keep in mind your first email that initiated the contact was sarcastic and snarky. I think her response was very mature given the tone of yours

I hope I haven't offended you but this is a subject close to my heart. I work in customer service for a large bank. I work at the 1-800 number. Lots of people seem to think we make the policies of the company or have strong personal belief that are in line with company policy. Actually our job is to fix your problem according to company policy.

But yes I would defiantly shop elsewhere

Where was she being snarky?

I don't mean to "insult your intelligence" here but I don't see either sarcasm, irony or snark here. Just cause we disagree with those guys doesn't mean they're somehow rude, impolite or less intelligent.

There really wasn't anything she could say that would make you happy, so she just kept it really professional and skipped answering the question that was a no-win to discuss. Kind of like how I would react to somebody who is anti-gun and I know there's no way in hell they'll ever change.

I don't think you did anything wrong - slight sarcasm in your tone, but no big deal. If they were to get enough of these calls/emails, they might care.

Also, keep in mind, the lady on the other end may possibly believe like you, but she's representing the company so she has to hold the company line.

Shortly after moving to this area, started looking around local pawnshops for bargains on outdoor gear. A clerk at one of them shocked me when he said "we don't deal in firearms of any kind, we want a family friendly selection of goods".
For a second, I was at a loss for words, publicly acceptable words anyway. So I responded with the first thing that came to my mind.
I learned to shoot and hunt with my family, and I won't be doing any business here.- 11 years ago
Kind of simple, but to the point. After leaving, I thought of sooo much more that could have been said, but for once in my life, short and to the point fit just right.

Your situation is a little different since you we speaking with the owner or "family". The OP's situation was dealing with a rep of a large corporation

To expect any other response than yes, that is our policy, & thanks, is unrealistic. The one responding has no say so, and wants to keep their job.

If someone wants to make a difference, or let someone know who has any say so, get the names of the higher ups and write polite letters.
