Another vote for 1911s. I started off with a Springfield EMP. Utterly unreliable at the first day on the range. Sent back to Springfield for a fix...it worked great....until this spring, when it started jamming again. I did a thorough cleaning, it was reliable again, made it through a 600 round weekend class...then it went back to being unreliable, plus having light primer strikes.
Not having had enough, I traded it for a Colt Commander. Worked great, but it just didn't fit my hand, and was actually painful to shoot.
Traded that for two Glocks, which have worked just fine. I love how 1911s look and shoot...but for something that expensive, it just seems that it should work better for me out of the box. ANd no matter how 'cool' they seem to be, I'm buying these handguns for self defense, not cool factor.
