completely lost interest

This summer I took up old style shaving--I spent maybe at the most $150 on it on various razors, blades, brushes, soaps etc.. and I've had a ball with my new hobby and there's a daily payoff when you shave every morning--I even shave on the weekends where before I would let myself go.

That has to be one of the most peculiar hobbies I've ever heard of. More power to you though, we need more clean shaven people in the world.

I like things like that, anachronistic. I carry a 1918 Colt 1903 and wear a 1901 Elgin Pocket Watch, but at the same time I have an iPhone4 with all my messaging and email on it. I used to shoot a lot, competed too, then I bought my house back in 1997 and lost interest in lieu of working on my house. When my Dad passed away last year his guns were left to me. I added them to my collection, got a Type 3 (Curio and relic) license and took his passing as a cue to get back into shooting. I've found that my re-found interest has interested me in other aspects of guns, like refinishing, rebluing, repairs, customization, etc. Let your hobby take you where it goes, and if it takes you to a new hobby, go with it.

Has this ever happened to anyone else before? I have completely lost interest in guns. I no longer have fun while shooting and have not kept one single gun for more than a few weeks.

Buy a suppressor.

The mega fun factor will increase by one hundred times.

You'll also be stuck with it for a long time!!

For generally the suppressor you buy now you will own for the rest of your life. :D

I don't lose interest in things, I just become extremely interested in something new, so I devote more time to it....but I never lose interest so much that I don't care at all anymore.

When I was a kid, I loved dinosaurs, then I loved extant wildlife especially wolves and bears, then I got really into birds of prey, then I got interested in Napoleonic History, then I got extremely interested in computer components especially switching mode power supplies, right now I am extremely interested in bolt action rifles and auto-loading pistols.

I am still interested in all of this stuff, including dinosaurs, but I periodically switch around what I am most interested in and what I devote most of my time studying.

Been there before and I am kind of there now, I just got done last yr with putting myself through college. Graduated right in the biggest depression in US history! Took a job in Ohio so I had to move from KS, leaving my friends and family.
I bought 4 guns over the last yr and only two of them would I consider as keepers. Bought a Harley, a mustang, and a F150 in the same time frame. I dont drive the mustang except to go home and see family the rest of the time I ride. When I took a better job I thought about just selling off everything and starting over.
I gave my college car to a woman who was homeless with 2 kids. I gave the college SUV to my aunt who runs a soup kitchen. Getting rid of the clutter in our lives is really the best thing we can do. I am glad to be where I am, but I dont need more stuff! If all I had was one pistol, one rifle, and one shotgun; I'd be happy! I could shoot what I have and not worry about the rest.
I am bipolar, it takes one to know one. We have our ups and downs, but in the end do a gut check. Selling off your weapons at a loss may not be the best thing you can do. Break even is acceptable, because even a decade after Colt quit making Snake Guns you can still find them. What I am trying to say is guns arent disappearing, things change and I wish you the best!

I just want rid of them.
Regarding a self defense/home defense gun, to me, that'd be like saying that I just can't stand the locks on my doors and windows anymore. Yeah, gotta get rid of all those darn locks, and while I'm at it, all the seat belts and airbags in my vehicles... they gotta go too.

Uhhhh... not hardly. This recession can not even begin to compare to the Great Depression, 1930-1941. Only our entry into WW II, got us out of it.

Competition.

I would get bored too if all I did was collect a bunch of random guns, shoot them blasting away at a range.

Go shoot some steel challenge, come back and tell me you didnt have a blast :)

I lost intrest in just about everything when I ran out of time to do anything. I was annoyed that the things I once loved just sat in the corner and looked at me. I was too tired and stressed out to enjoy anything.

As a single father of three boys age 2, 5, 8, I had to learn to prioritise. We eat off of paper plates and found ways to live simply. Now that I have time again, my hobbies are slowly coming back. I had to lose a few intrests to make time for others. I am not a gun enthusiast anymore, but I carry a Glock 26 with me due to safety concerns. I do spend my spare time fishing, more than ever.

Maybe it is just the world wearing on you. Simplify your life and make some time for yourself. If guns fall to the wayside in the process, so be it. Do yourself a favor and keep a few, just in case.

Sometimes my level of interest in a hunting rifle will wane. It will only do what I bought it to do. It isn't some tactical battle rifle and it has a definite range limitation.

But I'd never get rid of them. My family would starve.

It happened to me when I got out of LE, back in the early nineties. I sold two, to pay bills, but retained about eight others. Most of the time, I still kept one or two loaded around the house, but never carried or got around to securing a carry license. I got back into it in late 2007 or early 2008.

We where not $13 trillion dollars in the hole then either! Not to mention last I looked we have been at war for what close to 10 yrs now? I don't see us climbing out of this hole anytime soon.

How about stepping into training? There are many kinds of training...competition, self-defense, long range rifle, hunting, etc.

Why continue to waste money on "stuff" when you can gain skills?

I was really fascinated with black powder hand guns a number of years ago and had a number of them. But after some time, switched to semi-autos and sold all the black powders. Then decided revolvers was the way to go. So I've kept the best (imo) of semis and revs and am happy. :)

To be honest, I got married 25 yrs. ago and didn't fire a gun again until 1 1\2 yrs ago. I use to live to hunt and fish. Then it all stopped when my wife came along. {not her fault} I have been on a tear shooting everything in the last 1 1\2.
I started to get bored with the range and started shooting sporting clays. Boy do I like shooting Sporting clays. I bought some pistols and got really bored trying to punch paper. I shot a couple steel matches, boy I love shooting pistols now. I may look into IDPA or something like that to keep myself challenged. I've slowed down with the shooting, but sometimes it is just so relaxing to go shoot and not worry about anything for a while. I use it as my time to relax and get away.
I guess my point is, sometimes we just get burnt out on too much of a good thing. Maybe you just need a break from shooting. I wouldn't be too hasty getting rid of all your guns. You may want to come back to it in 6 months or a year. I kept my guns for 25 yrs. I'm so glad I did. If you don't need the money, keep some, they don't eat anything and don't require much attention if your not using them.

Good luck, I hope everything works out for you. We all at some point in our lives get overwhelmed with life and the hustle and bustle. Take a breathe and relax.

Yes. It's happening to me right now. I've bought about 20 guns over the last five years. I've gotten a safe, tons of ammo and a bunch of accessories.

I love all of my stuff. Nothing really expensive.

Got a son in baseball, scouts and he and I both golf together.

Just kinda bored with it. Just don't have the urge to go out t shoot anymore.

Probably will not sell anything though. Basic Taurus, Glock. Couple of good 1911s. Cheap AK and pretty decent Sabre Defence AR. 22 LRs, Mosin, SKS a few revolvers. But probably better off just keeping it.

Not mad or anything - and obviously still here at THR...

Hey, by the way - - Anybody have a TS SBX barrel for sale in 22LR???:)

A sign of depression perhaps. Depression and suicide manifest themselves in loss of interest in hobbies and giving away or selling stuff.

I don't know what I would do if I lost interest in guns. It's my only hobbie. And sports on occasion (any physical activity really).

I haven't been shooting since last fall, haven't bought a gun in about a year
but I visit the various gun boards regularly, peruse the gun magazines at the newstands and bookstores. There are various levels of interest.

I have had an interest in guns since my first BB gun. I have a few hobbies, and my optional spending gets split between them, but NOTHING is as fun as dragging home a new gun. I have thousands of dollars worth of wood working tools, that I'm not selling for guns.........well not yet anyway. ;) I have gone years without buying, mostly due to finances, but it's always something I come back to. The last few years they have been rewards to myself for acheivements...raises, jobs, etc. I have started to double up on some of my catagories so that when the kids get old enough, I can start them off too! :D

I would love to get a call from my son in 20 years, asking if I want to go shooting. Just had him out in the back yard with a BB gun the other day!

I have never truly lost interest in firearms. There have been times where I have not shot a single shot for years and then something happens and I begin shooting again. So, I don't sell the stuff I shoot, or will likely shoot.

Collecting is another matter and my interest certainly wanes from time to time. I used to really like the research, but once I did it or all I could do, there was nothing left except broadening the hobby or collector scope. I'm certainly in an ebb time at the moment. Sharing the knowledge is fun, but after participating on these forums, I discovered that my interests are not so different from many others and there are not that many details that are particularly "special" to me that others do not know.

I would say if you loose interest in most everything you consider fun, you probably need to decide what the cause is or seek some help trying to figure it out. It is a symptom of depression. But everything does not require a doctor for you to muddle through it. Sometimes, just a new friend will rekindle the interest.
