Friend of mine has a Civil War .58 musket replica, was thinking of a revolver to go with it. He knows the Colt and Remington, etc but when I told him about the LeMat he nearly had a heart attack (He likes big pistols) has anyone shot the Navy Arms or other LeMat replicas? I've handled one, but never shot one.

Got one and love it. The shotgun barrel is a real head turner at the range.

I can see why the people that used them liked them, lots of firepower for the day. Does not handle quite as nice as a Colt 1860, but once you get the feel of it, nothing else compairs.

Forrest certainly liked his and his gun is in the collection of the Smithsonian. For those of you in Georgia, the Smithsonian has the gun in its affiliate, Southern Railroad & Civil War Museum in Kennesaw, GA - where the steam engine General is (subject of the Buster Keaton silent flick of the same name and Pittinger's Daring & Suffering).

I'll give a vote in favor for them, my father and I both bought ours from the Cabela's bargain cave for a fraction of the retail. There a lot of fun to shoot, but a bit more work to clean than the other revolvers.
