Thoughts and Prayers

Perhaps one of my favorite quotes I've ever read from Dave was taken from an old TFL thread, "Old Age ain't for Sissies..."
Dave McCracken said:
Older shotgunners are oft unmatched resources, and letting one die w/o talking with them is like watching a library burn down w/o trying to preserve the books.....

Dave, thank you for taking the time to write, teach, and talk with us here. I can say that although we've never met, you have been an inspiration to me, and not just with shotguns.

Most important though, Prayers go out for you and your family. God Bless Dave.

Psalm 91 said:
1: Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
2: I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3: Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4: He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5: You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6: nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7: A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8: You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9: If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10: no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11: For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12: they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13: You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14: “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15: He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16: With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”

Very sorry to hear. Thank you for all your contributions. Your genuine desire to pass on your knowledge to others really stood out in all your posts.

Dave,
Fight for as long as possible my friend. We need your type of people in this world. We are all better off knowing you and reading your writings occasionally. Bless you my friend.

The whole time I've known and interacted with Dave he's been a fine gentlemen. A true mentor, and a good man who worked a tough job in a rough prison. I never saw it harden him.

This is terrible news. I know that life is not fair, but sometimes it can just be cruel.

This is one of those times.

Dave is one of those individuals that I've never met yet one I will never forget.

As my kids grow up, I'm sure I'll get the chance to refer them to Mr. McCracken's knowledge. My kids will know his name and they will read his words. He will teach beyond his days.

God bless you Dave. And thank you.

I used to live on this site but haven't been here in a while, for various reasons, and this was pretty bad news to come back to. When I was first getting into shotgunning a few years ago I gleaned more knowledge from the shotgun forum here in general, and by Mr. McCracken's writings in particular (both from his forum posts and through private messages) than from any other source. He was always eager to help. I am very saddened by this news.

Very sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with Dave and his family.

I am very sorry to hear this. I will pray for you and your family. My Dad died of cancer on April 28 th. I lived with him his last 8 days. He thought he was a burden on me, I just wish there was more I could do.

By his shared wisdom, I took him to be a level headed, down to earth type of man. No nonsense, straight talker. Would have liked to have set down and talked to him over a cup of joe. Although he is in a better place, he will be sorely missed around here. My prayers this evening are with his family.

Gentlemen,

While extending condolences let us also pledge to honor Dave by passing on his legacy of knowledge to others.

Let us also refer to him as our Celestial moderator.
