Large cap truck pistol?

Glock 19 or 17 and some big mags. They're very utilitarian guns, and it sounds like that's what you want. I'd go 19, because you can stick it in a jacket pocket if you need to.

Didn't Mas Ayoob once say something like, "My idea of a $5000 auto-pistol is a used VW with a Glock in the glove box"?

for what you are describing, I'd consider a KelTec SUB2000.

I know you are asking about a pistol, But IMO, if concealment isn't a factor, a carbine is going to be a lot more effective, and I think of the SUB2k as a jumped up pistol more than a small rifle.

I don't love poly guns either, but they serve a purpose. The FNX-9 hold 18 rounds with one in the chamber, and are well made. It is also hammer fired if that is your preference. I have an FNP-45. 15 rounds of 45 acp is a lot of juice! Great ergos. Durable. High cap. Real accurate. 3 mags. Handles 45+P with no problem. If I wanted a 9mm, I'd get the FNX.

You can't go wrong with a Glock 22. One in the pipe & 15 in the magazine. On a few of my G22 mag's I have pierce +2 extensions.

I have an Arcus with 15 round Argentine military surplus mags. It's all steel, only cost $249 and best of all shoots just as well as my BHP.

Will the new CZ P-09 be under $600? I'm emphasizing the Hi-cap aspect of the OP's criteria. 20 rounds of 9mm is a lot.

My upper limit for any handgun is $500. A "truck gun" for me means a knock around weapon. 6 bills seems pricey.

You can get 19+1 in any police-trade in 9/40/357 Glock. Can also get 33+1, 50+1, and 100+1 in that same $350 gun.

And it's already beat up.

Sounds like the way to go to me, too, but it's way too simple and straightforward for some guys. They'd much prefer something more exotic to post about on forums like this.

Doesn't meet your 30+ round criteria, but I picked up a very used Ruger P94 for $200 bucks. Replaced the springs, bought a couple of extra mags. Good enough for my 87 Chevy 1/2 ton.

Any of the CZ 75 clones might do. Or an actual CZ 75.

You might find one of the older Taurus 92 clones to fill your bill. When they first came out even the ones with the mag release on the lower left side of the butt were doing well in action style shooting.

Of course you might want to buy something that won't hurt to bad when it gets stolen.....

Hmmm I would have said that a larger version of whatever you carry now, but given your comments on not shooting autos, I'm going to assume that's a revolver.

If that's the case, and since you mentioned that you don't prefer polymer, perhaps a metal framed DAO or Double Action with a de-cocker. That way you don't have to remember to take the safety off. A used SIG comes to mind and should leave you with some money for a couple mags. Beretta made (and may still make for all I know) the 92 in DAO. Big gun in the hand, but that may not be an issue for you.

Ruger made some DAO and Decocker versions of their metal framed autos and they're rather inexpensive.
