Had adjustable sights that sit close to flush put on a P95DC.The front sight has a blaze orange ramp. The sights cleal leather without snagging.1 vote for the Ruger Polymer series.Just remember to push the extractor down before lifting the slide assembly off when detail stripping for cleaning.Left that step out one time after purchasing.Oh well.

I think there have been a lot of good suggestions! A lot of folks here have a great deal of experience with a particular type, and I see their recommendations as food for thought for the original poster.

PX15:
I choose pistols other than the Rugers because of their spare parts and repair policy I hate the idea of shipping a pistol back just for a part I could have replaced by myself. On the other hand, Rugers don't seem to need repair very often. Glad to hear from a fellow P-11 owner, having just bought one. I'm looking forward to shooting it this week. I find it very easy to carry in an appendix IWB holster, but didn't recommend it in this thread because I haven't had a chance to test it yet.

Best wishes,

Hi, Is that clip on your P11 an after market item? I believe that is a good idea for those little dudes. I am not that well versed in that particular item, :uhoh: maybe a good website will help. Thanks.

Belt clip...

Available from KelTec direct, not expensive, works great.

If you are new to KelTec's I recommend should you have an interest you monitor:

www.KeltecRange.com
www.KTOG.com
www.Bersatalk.com (@ the dedicated KelTec sub-forum)

All three of these forums will offer you all of the knowledge you have an interest in regarding KelTec firearms. Nice folks at all places.

Oh yeah.

If you read a negative rant regarding KelTec pistols from Kevin Quinlin, or a "Fowler" take the info with a grain of salt.....

Regular folks love KelTecs' and I'm already lusting after the new soon-to-be released PF-9. The PF-9 is basically a single stack "slim" P11 w/ a better trigger.

Hope this helps,

Big Gay Al:

I'm with you on the HighPoint 995 Carbine.

I've had one for several years, purchased after reading the "Gun Test" magazine article which rated it a better buy than the competing Ruger which retailed for twice the price.

My HiPoint 995 Carbine has been an excellent firearm. I put a red dot scope on it (I'm an old fart/declining visibility) and now it's even better.

A tremendous firearms bargain in my estimation.

Of course it IS ugly.. But even that can be corrected if it bothers you. Advanced Techology makes a replacement stock for it for around $60 that beautifies the beast big time.

I'd rather spend the $60 on more 9mm plinking ammo..

Oh yeah.. Lifetime warranty, no questions asked..

Best Wishes,

J. Pomeroy

Ruger P89. No question. Every US citizen should own one. Government should just hand them out.

I like it! Or, sell them for $100 or so, and let people either deduct the money from their IRS tax refunds (or add $100 to their check to Uncle Sam), with free insured shipping, to pay for one. Imagine getting your tax refund check, packaged with a P89!

I've made different choices, but I would never tell someone to skip buying a Ruger P-series at a good price. Now, the pistol I shot best was a Walther P-5, but that's out of my price range, as is the wonderful P-210.

So many choices, so little time!

<<<three words Browning Hi Power. You will not regret it.>>>

Oh my gosh! The ONE gun I've had that truely met the definition of "junk gun"! Not just one, I was foolish enough to spend my money trying a second one. Junk too! (Both Practical models.) Triggers that must have been finished with 30 grit sandpaper. Sometimes the trigger was so bad that I thought the safey was on! The second one had the front sight break off after about 500 rounds (I did not drop it or abuse it.)

That said, I know a lot of people like the High Powers and I admit they do feel nice in the hand. I would suggest the FEG clone, it's a lot cheaper and in my experience, more reliable. I like my FEG clone.

But I would not recommend the High Power or any single action for the new person buying a handgun for home defense. My first suggestion would be a revolver or a SA/DA.

Of the ones he asked about, I would go with the Ruger as the best gun for the money. Decent, reliable gun for the required task. I also think the CZ-75B is a great gun, one of the best 9mms and only a bit more expensive. A lot more gun for the money, IMO.

As for capacity, 15 rounds is more than enough for home defense. It is very unlikely anyone would need more than a half dozen rounds for home self defense unless your home is dealing drugs or you have enough cash laying around to attract a planned attack. If you need more than a half dozen rounds, your aim is terrible and you are endangering other (innocent) people.

More reliable? Not any of the ones I've owned or played with. They are cheaper, all right -- less expensive, too.
I'm glad you like yours, don't get me wrong -- I guess everybody can have a bad experience with one gun or another.

Guys. Please don't buy a hangun just because Guntest mag says so.They blow hot and cold. The P95 I own was lambasted in one issue and a few issues later was a Buy It moniker stamped on it.Nothing changes except the brands that it was compared with.I already own 2 Rugers in 9mm.That was long before the rating fiasco by them.Reports the magazine put out can be fine. And then there are those odd ones. The reason the Don't buy was given because of price compared to the other pistols. Sheesh.

What's the old saying, opinions are like.... Well, you know what I mean. Myself, I don't go on what the different gun mags say, alone. For instance, Gun-Tests gave the Hi-Point C9, 9mm compact a high rating. I know many people who would have just the opposite to say. But I also worked with some guys who would agree with Gun-Tests mag, and they used the Hi-Point in the field, down in New Orleans. They didn't just carry it, they used it for target practice

Yes, I know, there are others who have owned Hi-Points in the past, who would swear at it, rather than by it. But you know what, you can find lots of firearms in that category.

I agree with weregunner to a degree, don't go with or against a specific brand because of what a single gun magazine says, or what a few individuals might say. Go find a gun store with a range that rents guns. Most of them will have something that you might like.

If that fails, check with your friends see if any of them have something you might want to try.

I have a BHP, an Arcus and a FEG.

The FEG is at the bottom of the picture. It's the one with the lug broken off of the barrel.

The FEG shot pretty well, but not nearly as well as the Arcus or the BHP.

The FEG self destructed at about 800 rounds.

The Arcus although a little on the ugly side, has well over 5000 rounds fired and still running like a champ.

The BHP has always been a very accurate, easy to shoot and 100% reliable pistol for me.

Get the BHP!
