I have the older manual Trim Pro. When I bought it i also got the little drill adapter (hex head ball drive) waste of money.

So I have the drill set up and raised it level with a few pieces of wood, when I trim it is fine. Then to pull it out to change the brass of course the ball end pulls out and needs to be reinserted. Real pain and time waster.

Has anyone just bought a longer machine screw and screwed it in the trimmer and chuck the other end in a drill to make it a direct drive?

I do not imagine there are little teeny tiny U joints:)

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks

I use a longer bolt with the head cut off. I then put on a jam nut to give the drill something better to bite with. I can trim several hundred pieces before having to re-tighten the drill.

Yes, something like that. I was thinking just the machine bolt, maybe with a washer and nut tight against where it screws into the trimmer.

I ditched the round-headed piece and cut a piece of hex wrench and use that in my drill. I can hardly get that out, it never falls out. I also replaced the cheesy RCBS brass set screws on the trimmer w/ a brass screw of the same thread. Much easier to tighten and doesn't strip out. I recently started putting a very small amount of Imperial die wax on the mandrel and that allows it to slide out of the brass much easier.

sounds like y'all could use one of my adapters ;-)

send me an IM for payment details and I'll be happy to get an adapter out to ya :)

thanks guys!

Just an update. I bought one of the adapters and made a cradle from scrap plywood to support my drill.

The adapter is very well made, and works like a charm. Really speeds things up, makes the trimmer like a mini lathe.

Trimmed a bunch of 308 Win today. Takes the grunt work out of hand cranking. Wish I had bought one sooner!!

Well worth the few dollars it cost!!:)
