Is it useful to send the NRA-ILA any more money?

I've not always seen eye to eye with the nra, but overall they are the most EFFECTIVE organisation we have. I still make contributions, but became annoyed at the constant barrage of mailings begging for still more money. I requested that they stop sending them to me and they DID.

I give [5] 1yr. memberships every month to people I know that's my contribution....

NONE of that supports the ILA.

The NRA as a tax exempt organization is NOT allowed to lobby significantly.

We had to create the ILA to allow political lobbying.

The NRA is the big boy on the block. Without the NRA you could not legally own a .22 rifle today.

The NRA ILA is why you can still have that .22

The NRA cannot lobby since it is tax exempt.

Yes brickeyee, that is true. However, if any of those added members donate to the ILA it helps as everything grows larger and stronger, including the ILA the way I see it. So while the NRA is not the lobbying arm the more members the NRA has the larger the lobbying arm will hopefully become.

Just My Take....

If You can Breathe,....Thank God!
If you can Read,........Thank a Teacher!
If you read this in English,... Thank a Veteran!
That you can still own a Gun,...Thank the NRA!;)

I've come to the conclusion the NRA is less concerned about money as they are about membership numbers. They blow annual membership fees on mailings to members, but larger membership adds to its clout.

We should join to show there is a large, united group insisting on respect for our natural rights.

I always wonder at these complaints about constant dunning from NRA. It is so easy to email, call or write a letter asking to be taken off their mailing list. They will ask for conformation of your member number and send the word down to the company which does the mailings for them. In less than 3 months you will be off the lists, except for special cases for specific actions they are planning or taking. I get a notice about once every two or three years.

I am a life member of NRA, but I donate to ILA, when I can.

When i hosted NRA banquet/fundraisers it would annoy me to no end to watch these politicians running for state office or local office tell us in the most stirring terms possible how much they supported gun rights but as soon as they ran for statewide office or congress they'd suddenly discover that handguns are bad, and that rifles and shotguns are for hunting only, if that. Go figure? They'd clamor to come out to our range and get a pics and video of themselves hefting a (borrowed) shotgun around for their ads but who forget us or dismiss us as "gun nuts" later on. Politicians just don't stay bought any more. It's not the NRA's fault, but i'd rather give no endorsement or money to some of these races rather than throw it away on someone who's pretty clearly lying through their teeth. My thoughts on the matter.

As a lifer, I occassionally slip them $10 when I think they are doing a particularly good job, most recently in my mind followed a speech by Wayne L this Spring. When they are just ranting, I ignore them.

That's about it. Like in Men in Black, there is always something about to destroy earth, but knowing when the threat is really serious is the trick. No one can donate every time the NRA raises the red flag, but most folks can throw them a bone here and there.

Being on the membership role helps when they start thinking about the potential votes behind the money, so do both if there is any way you can afford it!

I'm also perplexed to see so many of their A rating candidates selling out like rats.

The Tea Party & Libertarian candidates are the only ones who seem to "get it"

The RINOs, IINOs and Democrats all wind up looking ht esame in the end.

As far as the NRA grades, those are very simple - the NRA grades on past performance. The NRA picks certain votes as graded (for example the nominations on Kagan and Sotomayor) and if you vote 100% with the NRA, you get the A+.

Unfortunately, as we all know, past performance is not a guarantee of future results. Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) sat on the NRA Board of Directors. He was the originator of the "ATF are jack-booted thugs" comment. In 1994, he voted against the ban until the party told him to toe the line, then he resigned from the Board and voted for the ban.

Bill Clinton had great NRA grades as Governor of Arkansas. We know how that turned out ultimately.

Most recently, we had Tom Coburn, an NRA A+ rated, GOA A+ rated, Senator trying to propose a universal background check that was even broader than Schumer (F) - Toomey (A) - Manchin (A).

You can blame the NRA for what votes they grade maybe; but you can't very well blame them for failing to guess which of the politicians that have voted with them 90% plus in the past are going to backstab them. As I noted, even GOA had problems with that and groups like SAF were backing a Schumer-sponsored bill! Blaming the NRA for not predicting those grades accurately is holding them to a standard nobody else met.

I've been a member since 1964 and I firmly believe that if there was not a NRA we would be in the same shape as people in the UK and Australia so yes, I donate as I can to NRA/ILA.

I really can't understand how anyone can take the time to complain about mailings from the NRA on a forum when it would take less time to send an email or make an 800 number call to have them stopped.

As far as supporting another organization than the NRA there is a reason you never hear of the groups as being in the fight to keep our 2nd amendment rights. They have so little clout that the anti-gun groups and the liberal news pay them no attention.

It's OK with me if your are a coat tail rider but politicians pay attention to membership numbers. You could join up, add to the membership numbers, request no mailings, and be part of the group.

Contribute to the NRA-ILA, they just defeated Obama's gun control and confiscation schemes in the senate. They get results!!!

Between the two I prefer to support the NRA-ILA. I'm also an NRA member but it's the ILA that lobbies for our RKBA and 2A rights.

Everbody has a choice. Either you can give or not.

The NRA is not the only group asking for money. It`s not one and done it`s a continuous
need for funds as battles are on going.

They are fighting our battles . That costs...............money.

I respect and appreciate what the nra does.

However, 2 weeks after I joined they asked me for more money and
I find this very annoying.

Also have been getting requests for more cash every 2 to 3 weeks.

I don't think this is right and may not ever send another dime.

Im not a rich guy, far from it. If my contribution is not appreciated,
next year Ill use it for ammo.

Jimmy

just like JB357MAG said, I joined the NRA and soon after, they're asking for more money. I guess there's only 2 things that really bother me about it.
One is: You get this envelope from the NRA. I open it. Usually in huge bold capitol letter is something like - YOUR RIGHTS ARE BEING TAKEN AWAY!!! IF WE DON'T ACT NOW, THE WORLD WILL END AS WE KNOW IT!! OBAMA IS ON HIS WAY TO YOUR HOUSE RIGHT NOW TO TAKE AWAY YOUR GUNS!! ALIENS, EARTHQUAKES, HURRICANES AND TORNADOS!!! ARE WE SCARING YOU ENOUGH FOR YOU TO SEND MONEY!!! YOU MUST ACT NOW OR WE'RE ALL DOOMED!! AAAAAAHHHHH!!!
Then after that, they try to make you feel guilty if you don't send something. "Isn't preserving our 2nd amendment worth $5? $10? $25? $100? $500 or even a $1,000?"
Ok, that might be over-done (but not by much!!) and I actually sent money on the first one I got, which of course, only made them send me even more endless crap.
The 2nd is: I really do wonder how much money they spend on solicitations? I really believe the money I sent for a year membership, the NRA spent mailing me stuff to get more money! So when my membership ran out I didn't renew it. I can only guess how many trees were saved.

Is my freedom and firearms worth it ? Absolutely. Not independently wealthy, I cannot always afford to be as generous as I'd like but I send a few bucks now and then even if if it's only a five-er. Having made the decision to fight to preserve my freedom I'd personally prefer to fight with bucks over bullets. How about you?

I'm finding it amazing how many people are calling the ILA the NRA.

Don't they know they are totally different entities and don't share funding EVER?
