So I'm going threw my mail yesterday after work and came across this NRA-ILA sweepstakes letter. Wow, seems like they are giving away a good amount of handguns and rifles. Some really nice choices for the 7 you can select on your entry form.

My question though is whether anyone here has ever won any of these prizes in the past or even known of anybody who has. I guess I'm always skeptical about these types of sweepstakes as you never hear anything more about them once you send in the response form. Kinda like that one done by Publishers Clearinghouse.

I sent mine out yesterday. No I've never won anything like that but I don't mind playing along. Besides they had some schweet schwag if I do get lucky enough to win.

I know a guy who has won two guns at local "Friends of the NRA" dinners. People do win this stuff - it's just not us.

entry period?

The sweepstakes form I got this year says the entry period is from 9/1/09 - 12/31/10. Is this a mistake? Then it says the drawings will be something like 2/28/11.

I'm thinking someone made a mistake and the entry period is until 12/31/09, and the drawing will be around 2/28/10. I have never heard of a sweepstakes having an entry period of 1 year and 4 months with the drawing almost two years after the entry period began haha.

Anyone else catch thàt? Anyone know if its a type or if this sweepstakes is really going to take this long.

Thanks guys

with 4 million members why would any one know the winner.I believe they publish winners in the rifleman.if your not a member why would you care.

I saw the same dates, and I believe they are correct. If I remember correctly, I read thru a Publisher's Clearinghouse or similar sweepstakes entry many years ago. It was open for over one year also. Keep the same promotion going, entice as many entries as possible, and try to get as many people to donate as possible. I just threw their mailing out (after mailing in my entry), but if I remember correctly, the total value of all the prices was $70,000 or so. Sounds like a lot to the average Joe, but only 833 people have to donate the maximum asked, $84, to pay for the prizes. After paying off the cost of printing, mailing, etc., everything else is profit (or in this case, for the cause).

If the NRA has 4 million members, and only 1% send an average donation of $40, that is $1.6 million raised. Direct mailings usually average a 2% response rate, if I remember correctly.
