I'm a noobie, only owned a handgun and been shooting less than a year. I'm 34 yrs old by the way. I joined NRA a few months after my handgun purchase. I have become, at least philosophically, a big advocate of our 2nd amendment rights. (I'm sure everyone on this board are big supporters of 2A rights but I only mention this because before my handgun purchase I was a non-gun owner and quite ambivalent and unconcerned/uninterested in these issues).

Anyway, I appreciate the e-mails that I get from NRA informing me of legislative issues within my state of Florida and nationwide AND the e-mail addresses of my senators and representatives that will be voting on these issues. I have used these e-mails to construct short letters that I copy and paste and e-mail to each and every legislator voting on these 2A issues asking for their support on these issues. Most of my e-mails only receive generic/ automatic responses so I am sure that most of the content of my e-mails goes unread, but I am quite sure that my "Support such and such bill" in the subject line of my e-mail gets counted in some sort of bean-counting system so that these legislators know where their constituents stand on these issues.
For those of you on this board that haven't joined the NRA, why?? I admit I'm a noobie, but I've never been handfed so much information than my measly $30 NRA membership has given me. Power exists in numbers. Even if you join and never do anything else, the sheer size will increase our power.

My question is... How many of you fellow NRA members take the time to call or e-mail your legislators urging them to support 2A issues?
I'm sure I don't spend more than an hour a month in this effort and I'm sure these anti-gunners are flooding these offices with their opinions and we need to show them that they are "outgunned" and outsmarted. We need to let our legislators know that we read, write letters, inform our communities, and VOTE!

i do for all my GOA updates. most of my ILA emails are flagged as junk, along with all the NRAStore spam, and NRA Foundation spam, and the Wayne Lapierre spam, etc.

I have found much better response from my Congress critters if I use a hard copy and the Federal Snail Service to deliver it. Every time I send a letter I get a reply. Not so when I send e-mail.

You are going to find out, too, that there is a lot of Neanderthal chest-thumping when some subjects come up, but I would hasten to bet that less than 20% take the time or go to the pains of actually expressing their concerns to their elected officials. It is a sad thing, and yet they get horrifically angry when things do not go their way.

The Zumbo saga is a prime example of the power wielded by a concerted effort if you can get them angry enough to follow through (I am talking about members of this board).

You will also find that many of the members of this board do not like the NRA for reasons of their own. I, however, am like you and look forward to getting my weekly Grass Roots Alerts and I have several friends that allow me to forward those Alerts to them as well. I had my Alerts tossed as spam by my ISP for a while and I ended up talking to every working ya hoo all the way to the President of the company. The NRA also jumped in and now I get my Alerts.

Al Gore lost the Presidency because of his anti-gun stance. That is the power that gun owners have if you can get them all to the poles at election time.

That's one of the main reasons I recently joined as well and have encouraged many others to do the same. Apparantly not everyone is happy with the results of the NRA, but I tend to believe that if any pro gun lobby group had even 10 million US members polititians would think twice before proposing gun control.

I take the time. However I also think that anti-gunners though far fewer in number put forth a far greater effort, which is why gun control exists. My fear is that this may be our downfall. I've tried to start a general gun control awareness and letter writing campaign through gunshops in my state, but need help with hitting gunshops not in my area. Most shop owners I've dealt with are more than willing to help but as far as I know my idea is having trouble getting off the ground for lack of volunteers.
