Are The Gen 4 Glocks Worth The Change?

I have not been impressed with the reliability/QC complaints associated with the newer Glocks, and wondered if anyone else feels the same way I do. I have some Gen III's, and don't feel the need for any of the "improvements". Did Glock shoot themselves in the foot on this one? My older Glocks are just fine.

While Gen III G20SF felt little better in my hands I bought two Gen IV G20s. I liked counter recoil spring, larger mag release and sweaty hands/gloved hands friendly finish of Gen IV grip area. If I owned previous generation Glocks and liked them I would not change out guns, but If I was in market for new one it would be Gen IV especially in full-sized gun.

Definitely worth it for me, while the SF was a step in the right direction the Gen IV Glocks are the first I can shoot well out of the box.

For me, the Gen4's smaller grip, ability to make the mag release lefty, and more fully supported chamber (.40cal) are the reasons to go there.

I have only one comparison I can legitimately make: model 19. I own both a Gen3 and a Gen4. I like them both equally and see no real advantage for the Gen4. No disadvantages either for that matter since the Gen4 has been flawless through a few thousand rounds. But so has the Gen3.

I do like the Gen 4's grip and texture, but I like the Gen3's too.

I've only shot one, a gen 4 G22. Grip felt fragile and plasticky to me. Like an airsoft toy. I realize it sounds strange to call a plastic glock grip plasticky, but my gen 3 G22 doesn't feel cheap.

shot fine, though.

Well I guess I am one of the minority I like the Gen 3 better than the Gen 4 I've shot both quite extensively and I just prefer the gen 3 it just feels right

I carried a Gen 3 as a duty weapon for 12 years and am on year 2 with a Gen 4. From a users standpoint, I can't tell a nickel's worth of difference in the two.

The biggest difference between the two for me is the mag release. I have short thumbs and I find the mag release on the prior Glocks unusable. With most other guns I have I can reach the mag release with the middle finger of my shooting hand. I can't do that with the location of the Glock mag release. The Gen 4 is great. I can even use it with my thumb.

I have a Gen 4 model 19 and like it very much. I've had no problems with it so far. However, if I owned a Gen 3 and it felt and shot good, I see no reason to change.

We have both Gen3 and Gen4 17s. I prefer my Gen3, the Gen4 fits my wife's hand better. Both have been completely trouble free, and I've yet to notice any difference in recoil, even using 9mm NATO, which is hotter than +P.
I plan to get her a Gen4 26 and I want a Gen4 21. It feels so much better in my hand than the Gen2 or 3.

No I do NOT FEEL the same way as you do.

I have hit 100 yard targets with new to me Gen 4 Glocks in .40 and 9. I FEEL there have been improvements made.

I have a G19 from 2006 and a G26 from 2007 and I've never had a problem with them. I have shot generation 4 Glocks but I don't feel the difference.
However go to the Glock forum and you'll find dozens of threads up to 20 pages long of people complaining about their newer Glocks.

I bought a gen 4 19, and while for the most part I prefer the gen 4 features, for whatever reason I got terrible slide bite from this pistol. I did not experience that with my gen 3 26. It was bad enough I sold it two weeks after i bought it and got an xd, which I am very satisfied with.

sent from my Galaxy Note II.

The .40's have had increased chamber support since the late 90's/early 00's.

It has nothing to do with the GEN4 alterations.

I think so.

For me pretty much everything feels better with the gen 4s. I like the shorter reach and the texture.
My Gen 4 is still new so only time will tell on the reliability. No “brass to face” so far. I think Glock is
smart to make both. It seems a lot of people like the older grips better.

I am now heavily invested in Gen4s and have sold all of my prior Gen pistols. I have one early Gen4 23 that had ejection issues until I installed the updated ejector; other than that, they've been flawless.

I would not worry about any NIB Gen4 - any early teething pains with the Gen4 changes are long since exorcised, and I value the ambi mag release and interchangable backstraps highly.

15 Glocks here. All gens except a Gen 2.5.

I bought a Gen4 G17 back in the winter using my GSSF coupon mostly because I wanted the extra mags for my other G17's. I figured $90 worth of mags, left with $335 in a new G17. I know, illogical thinking, LOL. Anyway this is the least accurate of all my Glocks. Not just me, my wife has the same accuracy issues with it. It is just a range, beater pistol now.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a Gen4 G23. All I can say is WOW! This pistol is scary accurate. I am very satisfied with it.

Given that, my favorite G17 is still my Gen1 G17.

I can't tell a difference, but I shoot 9mm. I think if I were shooting .40 or .357 sig and recoil was more of an issue I would feel it. Also, I'm right handed, gen IV is better for lefties.

I have had every Glock generation since they started selling them. I never had a complaint with a any one. My 1st gen 30 and my 3d gen 26 shoot just fine for me. I would never consider switching generations just for the heck of it. If I were purchasing a new gun and it was a glock, I would buy whatever the latest model was, unless it didn't feel as good as the previous one.
