Some of your comments to another post of mine inspired me to alter how I was making paper cartridges for my 44 Remington revolver. I have put together a little photographic how-to that shows how I am now making paper cartridges for my 44 C&B that are single-thickness on the nipple end. I have attached the procedure as a PDF file, including step-by-step photos.

Thanks for the inspirations to (1) use hair dresser end papers; (2) develop a single thickness closure. Sharing ideas is what these forums are all about.

Firing session today

I went to the range today to test some new No.11 magnum caps. Bottom line - no better than the No. 10s. I wanted to try the No.11 magnum caps even though they are too large and require pinching. My best fir and results are with CCI No.10 caps.

These paper cartridges performed flawlessly - no misfires, no hang-fires no delays. Very accurate - nice clusters near the bullseye. I have 3 cylinders there was a little paper in the bottom of one cylinder. My load is about 23gr TrippleSeven with a round .454 Hornady ball.

I also had some old paper cartridges with me, that I made a while back, where I had a bullet glued to the top and a flattened twist type closure at the nipple end. These did NOT fire well. Several fires with noticeable delay but there was some delay even in the ones where you couldn't tell because the accuracy was terrible. I gave up on that cartridge style and this is why - terrible performance.

celem: What type of paper had you used in your older cartridges?

American Spirits papers are made of flax, and I used both T7 and Olde E with a Rem #10 cap and had no real problems. Mine are twisted closed at the nipple end.

These papers seem much thinner than Zig Zag's, though I'm not sure if that's true. You can see through these papers. Maybe there's something with them using flax instead.

The curling iron papers do they burn up easy? I figured the whole idea of using rolling papers is because they burn up pretty easy.

I havnt made any yet im about to im doing all the research now then ill try later today after i get all the rest of the stuff i need.

Why doesnt anyone use glue to glue the ball on the outside of the cartridge? That was my idea, rather then roll it up inside the paper or drop it in after why not just dab some glue to the end and glue the ball to the little twist?

This is how im planning to do mine first.

Also why use food as filler? i dont understand this part. Couldnt you use something else as filler that doesnt stink? I know the wads work but something like talc? something manly lol old spice talc :D

Im planning to roll up about 50 rounds and try them tomorrow at the range. I dont have alot of 3F left so i thought ide try some 2F also and see if there is any difference in say 23G of 3F or 30G of 2F

Bower: I know of a fellow who glues his ball to the paper using superglue.

I'm curious whether or not you've had the chance to fire some off?
