G19 vs SR9 vs FNX9

A lot of people complained about Brass to the face with Glock Gen 4s too...

I've got an FNP-40, and mine ejects them out to the right and pretty far. I can load the full 14 into the magazines just fine as well. I shot another guys FNX-40 and it handled pretty much just like mine.

My FN pops its .40 cases out and away just fine. However, getting hit in the face with hot brass is no fun

F-111 - I was using one! Darn mags simply would not load.

Honestly, with this kind of experience, as of tonight, I'm really thinking I'll get the pistol back, test fire it, clean it, and sell it.

I know these things happen, but they shouldn't.

Far too many people make passive-aggressive snide comments without contributing positively to discourse.

See, I can do it too!

We'll see what happens to the pistol - and how it behaves after FNH has their hands on it - and go from there. No one wants to own a pistol they don't trust or care for and, unfortunately, negative first experiences do have a tendency to carry weight.

Example: kids and brussels sprouts.

it's a shame you're not enjoying your new gun. I just recently picked up an FNX 45 and its a fantastic gun, IMHO really the next step up in terms of quality from Glocks and their ilk

So, I received an email today letting me know they've received my pistol.

Am I the only one who didn't know that Browning/Winchester is handling their service? Is FNH USA owned by them?

As much as I like my Glocks, I'm quickly becoming a FN fan. Our FNS-40 has been a joy to shoot and has become my current daytime constant companion, but that's only because CTC doesn't have a grip style laser for it. The G23 with CTC remains my nightstand gun.

The FNS-40 drops all the empties at my feet, actually just slightly to the right, but I really like that. Makes sweeping up empties a lot more convenient.

If you already are very familiar with 1911s why not just get a 1911 in a more practical caliber, like 9mm?

Out of the three I am partial to Glocks. If it where for competition i would go with a G17 or G34. I have a G19 and think it is better suited as a general purpose defensive pistol.

UPDATE:

FNH-USA has been completely unhelpful, rude, and very disappointing to deal with over the course of my completely warranted return for service. After multiple phone calls, incorrect information from representatives, and difficulty getting a straight answer, I have now been sent a bill for over a hundred bucks for repairs.

To a brand new firearm that did not function properly out of the box.

I will be calling FNH tomorrow, and believe me, it will be an interesting, polite discussion.

Anyone want to buy an FNX-9?

Have you considered M&P ?

M&P40 is my primary pistol.

If M&P is not available, FNS model without manual firing inhibitor separate from the trigger or H&K P30 light LEM would be my next choice.

That is awful to hear. I feel badly for you as this is a simple fix. The extractor just needs to be tuned/adjusted. A few seconds of re-profiling or just install a new extractor. FN should cover everything under warranty including shipping to, and from.

If you dump it consider a CZ-75D PCR, P-01 or if polymer is a must the P-07. The M&P is a good gun also, and as others have said, nothing wrong with the venerable G19.

Wow, that does suck. As much as I love my FNS-40, I'd dump it in a heartbeat if that's how they treated me.

That's a real shame.

I read through different forums about wunderguns, and keep picking up my G-19 again. Every time, I decide that it stays. It has maybe 3,000 rounds thru it by me, with zero failures. I do get the occasional clonk on the forehead from fired brass. When that happens, I automatically go into analyzing how it affects me. It doesn't slow me from making the next shot. I semi expected it, and it doesn't happen very often. OK then.
The majority of the ammo this one (Gen. 3) has had thru it has been my relatively hot 124 gr. JHP hand load @ 1,300 fps, chrono'd with that gun. It remains tight and accurate.
While people post fond remarks about the M&P, there is a very good reason. Glock filed patent infringement against S&W, and won. S&W pays Glock for every M&P they sell.
I like that the 19 accepts magazines for the 17 and 18.
If I had to settle on just one CF pistol, I wouldn't feel deprived in any way with the G-19.

Glock sued over the Sigma, not the M&P...and they didn't win in court, it was settled out of court

Well, called today to find out the status of my pistol, and was told it had shipped.

I asked about the charge, the rep said there was none, and that they had test fired it and not had any problems. (And yes, the customer service rep said he fired it along with the gunsmith - which cracks me up.)

I am so disappointed with how all of this went, and haven't experienced customer service this slipshod. The website still shows all the charges, that it's still being worked on, and that it was finished a month ago.

As soon as it is in my hands, it's going up for sale.

On top of everything else?

Just received the gun - and it's filthy. They obviously shot it, and then couldn't be bothered to clean it.

So disappointed.

I actually feel like calling them back up and complaining, but what good would it do? Their customer service in my case has already proven inadequate - why should I expect them to care now?

Time to clean this thing and put it up for sale. I'm sure it's a good and reliable firearm, but I'm done with it.

Caveat emptor.

FN handguns tend to come with very heavy springs in them, both mag springs (as you noted) and recoil springs. The typical fix is to lock the slide back for a week or so and leave the mags loaded for a few days, it seems to help everything take a set. Often that will cure the brass to the face with them, it's almost always gone after a couple hundred rounds anyway.

I absolutely love the Glock 19. I have an FNX 45 and while it may seem the logical choice from a 1911 user, it is not. Going from a 1911 to an FNX, you will not be impressed with the single action trigger or the safety. I like the gun, but for the price you're likely to get one, ($700 for the FNX 45) the quality is lacking a bit. This is apparent in the polymer safety/decocker as it is not tight fitting or positive as any 1911 I have ever seen. It honestly feels cheap. If the gun was available for about $550, this would be more easily forgiven.
Long story short, I think you will like the G19 or SR9 better.

Side note: There is no way to detail strip an FNX that I am aware of.
My .02
