Springfield XDs Recall

Got mine back & put 100 rounds of assorted FMJ through it without any issues. New heavy trigger kinda sucks, considering the price of the gun, but I'm still accurate with it.

Problems arose when I went to test my carry ammo: Federal HydraShok 230 gr. Out of the 14 rounds I had 1 premature slide lock (in middle of a magazine) and 1 FTF. I have 700 rounds through the gun so I know it's broken in. And, it shot HydraShoks just fine before.

Question is: what have y'all found to be a reliable JHP in your XDs .45 (I don't care about experiences with the 9 - no offense)

Quite frankly, the more I hear folks remarking on the heavier trigger pull (and even many who remark on how it feels noticeably different, and often not for the better), the more I am thinking that I may opt to not send my XDs in.

One of the things that I really like about my XDs45 is the trigger action and initial reports suggest that the trigger actions on the returns may not be consistent.

And, no, I would not be interested in paying someone to fix after Recall Upgrade what is presently not, now, "broken", y'know?

Decisions, decisions.

I will keep reading all of these reports on the Returns with interest.

BTW, my thanks to all who are taking the time to share their experiences with their returned XDses.

I do wish I could go back to the "pre-recall fix" trigger. It was sweet!

about the XDS,i agree Guyz no more $ on a fix! Mine should b in soon/but keeping me from purchasing another in 9ml. ? Don't no?

Stopped in at my LGS/Range to pick up my new Beretta Px4 sc. The guys there know that a Springfield XD-S in .45 is next on my list of new handgun buys and 2 of them have had their XD-s's waiting for the mods to be implements - they'd loved to show my some (as all their stock pistols were sent in as well) but everything has been off the shelves waiting "The Fix".

I was told the guys got their personal pistols back, shot them at approx. 100 rounds thru each gun, and both sold them!

Apparently with prejudice as well and told me there were gonna be *a lot* of good used XD-s available as many customers who have had returned pistols feel the same way. They just don;t like the triggers and are giving up on the XD-S because of it.

I'm still wanting one (real bad actually) as I have only shot one for only a few rounds before the recall started. I'm wondering if it's just the "change" that has upset these guys and if they had never owned and shot a pre mod XD-S they would be thrilled yet?

I'm gonna buy one regardless as soon as I get a chance to handle and test shoot one with the new trigger. New or lightly used - either way is gonna be good for me.

What's the verdict on this? How many guys are gonna give 'em up and is it a frame of reference thing or are the new triggers *that* bad?

I got mine back at 7:55PM Wed. Dogs went apepoop at the door for a delivery at the hour, but that's another story.

The trigger takes more force, no doubt, and dry firing it's much more of a CLACK*. But I dry fired it a decent amount and even with a fairly loose grip and rapid trigger sweep, the gun stays well on target. It's hard to think this will effect target performance. Will shoot ASAP.

*The force and feel are higher, but there is no Glock grit feel. I liked the trigger feel before and I think the free market will sooner rather than later have a "fix".

Got mine back last Wednesday..Put a few flawless rounds thru it...trigger was a little heavier but is already feeling much better...I'm remembering again why I like this gun so much..Very accurate,easy to carry,lightweight and it's a 45..It's a carry piece for me..I don't need a match grade trigger for that..as I said,it's already smoothing out quite a bit with some rounds thru it...I definitely won't sell mine...

Long, heavy trigger and a spongy grip safety on top of another 3 month wait? Really regretting sending mine in right now. Put a few hundred rounds through it right before i sent it in and no problems. Should have at least waited till they had a half ways reasonable turn around time.

While the trigger is a bit heavier, and heavy is relative, it certainly isn't long and the grip safety isn't spongy. Please, these are web exaggerations, IMHO.

Sent mine in on Aug 30th and received it back earlier this week. I plan to take it to the range tomorrow to give it a check ride.

Yes, the trigger's a little bit stiffer, as is the grip safety, but not enough to bother me. Dry firing with a snap cap about 100x has already lightened it some. If this was a target pistol, I wouldn't be happy, but it's not and I am. This is a compact pocketable pistol with 45acp firepower. I think it's just about right for that role.

Ack! Check-ride flashbacks!!!!

Got my recalled XDS 9mm back and there is definitely a change. Trigger was fabulous before the "fix" and the gun was scary accurate. After returning, the trigger is heavier and that "CLACK" is definitely more noticeable. Before it was sent in, I had fired a two half boxes of 9mm ammo and with attention to trigger control and follow through, I was able to keep a tight ragged hole at 10 yards. Pistol is shooting 4-6" groups now. I know its the trigger...I really regret sending it in for the "fix." I'm not giving up on it...yet...figure I'll give it 500 rounds to see if I can get back on target with it. Its a shame because I love the feel of the pistol.

It seems to me as if the final take-up of the trigger pull has a lot more creep to it now and I seem to want to stroke the XDs trigger like a DAO revolver or DAO semi auto without pausing at the final take-up, just stroke it smooth and continuous all the way through.

Has anyone else felt this or is it just me?

My reaction to the new trigger is the exact opposite. I got to compare my “upgraded” gun against the one I have not sent back. The upgraded gun has a heavier pull, but it is much nicer than the unmodified gun. The unmodified version is nothing but creep after the initial take-up. The modified gun has the initial take-up, then some slight creep, then hits a wall before firing. This allows me to stage the trigger and get a good, clean shot. I couldn’t tell when the unmodified guns were going to go off. So far, accuracy is the same with the modified gun, but I believe that I can do better with it with some practice. Between the two, I would definitely take the modified version. As soon as the initial rush is over, I am sending the other gun in for the upgrade.

Mine works fine without the upgrade, I am still debating it, once it's loaded an holstered, there doesn't seem to be any threat of it just going off.

Yes, the final take up with mine now has noticeable creep unlike a Glock, which the XDs trigger felt more similar to before the recall.

I must assume that you are referring to the fact that on a "non-upgraded" XDs the trigger will not be reset if the slide is racked without the grip safety being depressed ... which can lead to the Issue(s?) that caused the Recall.

Knowing this, I have been confident enough to carry my XDs45 since the middle of last month.

I am with gym, I am still debating whether or not to send my XDs45 in for the upgrade work.

I understand your position. What I meant was that most people's pistols worked fine other than a few extremely rare cases.

Put about 170 rounds through my "upgraded" XDs 45 this morning. The trigger is a-ok in my book. As an aside, I didn't have much time to familiarize myself with this pistol prior to the recall. After this morning's session, I can say that it's the most natural point-shooter I have in my carry rotation. From 4 yards, I was able to hit what I wanted to very consistently using point-shooting technique. It seems to be a heckuva good SD pistol, which is exactly what I got it for.

From 30 yards, my Ruger 22/45 was able to shoot much more accurately.

That's why they're two different pistols for completely different purposes.

Anyone read the updates lately? All they've done is change the date at the top of the page for the last 3 weeks!

Should have the one I sent in by Thanksgiving if SA can be believed. Can't wait to compare it to the one I didn't send in....
