I was doing a little hiking behind my pasture and stumbled upon this. Quite surprised how far they would have had to drag it, to get to where it was dumped. Hopefully the sheriff will be able to find prints or something.

Doubt they will get prints.

Yeah I dont know how long something like that lasts out in the elements. Ive been out of the country for 6wks and I know it wasnt there before I left.

The only good thief is a dead thief.

They were lucky you didn't walk up on them. You do carry don't you. :)

What that image shows me is how little security this type of 'gun safe' provides. Mainly useful for restricting children and the uninvited. Determined types will prevail.

Zeeemu took my thoughts before I could type them out. I wonder what the price was on that safe, how good of quality it was considered. Any indication if it was screwed to the floor? Bolts or scraped paint around bolt holes on the inside? All safes do is buy time, this one obviously didn't buy enough.

I worry more about fire and water damage, common things being common.

I have an alarm and insurance for thieves.

I've seen cardboard boxes with thicker walls than that "safe"

Yep... That's the first time I've ever seen one of those RSC's opened up.

Going OT (sorry): My guns aren't worth buying a $5K safe to protect them. I just hide mine very creatively. It'll cost far less to replace my firearms if stolen or burnt than buying a pricey safe. And a safe... is very visually conspicuous so... IMHO... worse than just hiding.

I have several rifles which cost more than the $1200 many of these RSC's sell for. I have probably at least 10-12 guns which CAN'T be replaced.

Well, that's different than my situation, isn't it? :) Even so, IMHO, when it comes to thievery, very creative/effective "hiding" is often better than openly seen "safes". And... how often do "safes" fail a true real-world fire test?

If someone wants it there is nothing that will stop them. Locks and safes are for honest people, insurance companies and a place for your stuff you don't want in the hands of your children.

That's what I was always told. Locks are to keep honest people honest. :scrutiny:

all the time it took the bad guys to break in, find the safe, move it out to the truck.... where were the cops? surely the alarm with back up battery sounded and sent the trouble signal.... oh, they didn't have an alarm?

If it takes five minutes to haul away a safe after an alarm is set off...

Huh? What was the question?

Looks like some type of dead animals head is sticking out from under the safe on the right side???????

That thing's in pretty rough shape...paint's all scratched up, chrome's gone off the handles and they're rusty.....gotta wonder what the story is.
