Truck Gun

I also have a Rossi matched pair in 22 and 410 that stays in my tool box under lock and key but the .22 mag in the glove box is my truck gun

Over the years I have carried a variety of guns in my car/truck. Usually an old single shot 12 ga. shotgun or .22lr rifle.

In my view, something like the AR-7 survival rifle by Henry would be an excellent choice. Although a Hi-Point carbine also sounds good.

Currently I am carrying a Ruger Mini-14 in a hard case, behind the seat.

Tundra and Sequoia each have a Console Vault with a G30 inside, with two full extra mags. In addition, I usually have a sidearm on my person.

When on my Harley, I'm carrying at least one, often two, occasionally three. Now that the local Sheriff has increased the number of guns on a CCW permit to ten, it's a challange to carry them all!

When I'm out on my property this pawn shop bubba'd M44 Mosin Nagant with PEM scope will ride unloaded behind the seat of my truck.

What about the ubiquitous double barrel shotgun as a truck gun? This cheap old 20 ga Wards Hercules has been sitting in my safe for decades. Basically a $20 yard sale gun. Nice thing is they break down just by popping off the forearm. Real tempted to cut the barrels to 18". Whole package would only be 18" long. Double the firepower of my cut down single shots.

I don't leave a gun in the car in FL. It comes from my living most of my life , 45 years in NY, and your car get's broken in to or stolen, "if not in a parking garage", and even there it's not safe. Also in NYC, my carry permit stated that you were not to leave your gun in the car unless you are in the car. "the polar opposite of FL". So I just don't do it, having a decent car, it is a target for thieves.
Being in a gated and patrolled community with low crime rates, didn't stop a gang of kids from breaking into 22 vehicle's in 1 night. It's not worth having to explain it to the cops, so I just carry on my person, spare ammo in the vehicle.

That wards 20 is worth way more than $20. More like $500 to $800. Looks to be in great shape. Cut it and it will be worth $20.

I've got a cut down single shot 12 ga version of that Wards Hercules with a Rustoleum rattle can finish on the metal if you want to see a $20 gun. I'll trade ya even up. ;)

Stevens 520 Takedown. Resides under the back tray in my '05 Grand Cherokee 5BFE11D2-914B-4970-A27D-21C96E9EE1EB-12745-0000091D825140EB.jpg
That reminds me of a 12 ga. M97 shotgun my dad used to carry in his truck. The barrel was 20" and had no choke.

He routinely carried hundreds of dollars from a restaurant till back and forth from our house everyday and made one trip to the bank once a week. He was a WW2 combat vet and everyone who knew him knew that he was never very far from that shotgun. The gun went almost every where he did. It came into the house every night and went in the truck every morning. He kept it in the kitchen of his restaurant during the day.

That was a truck gun. It's in my safe right now.

Closer look at the Wards Hercules. Basically it is a low end Stevens though I don't know what model. I doubt if it is worth much more than $100 but I will try not to cut it.:D

My truck gun for years was a 10mm EAA witness. Cheap accurate and reliable power for what I was dealing with. Now when I take the truck it is a glock 20. Less stuff to rust in the glock!

I travel by car all over the Southwest. My car is newer and has enough spares and gear (get home bag) that I could live out of it for a couple of weeks in an emergency. While I prefer a Holiday Inn Express (haha) in a pinch I could survive using gear that is in my trunk.

While I own a bunch of older rifles and handguns I've decided that I want enough firepower in a couple of modern firearms. I have cases for my 2 choices that don't look like gun cases. That way pulling into a motel for the night I can off load with my other luggage without disturbing guests in the lobby...hehe.

My choice is my Glock 20SF in 10MM and my Glock 20 Mech Tech Carbine conversion. Incredible portability and firepower. Both use the same ammo.

I never leave these firearms alone in the car. In areas I travel you can expect trouble with thieves boosting items out of vehicles and I couldn't sleep much thinking about this.

Probably in rural areas this wouldn't be as much of a concern.

Oceanbob, your approach is like I had in my truck working west texas. I always had enough supplies to go a while in the back in action packers. That way I could empty the truck into a hotel room pretty quickly.

Good job on the 10mms. Same as I am doing today (g20 that is).
